Not at Mass, but, just in general, WOMEN, the WOMEN HERE WHO WEAR PANTS, do you also wear shorts or is that where you draw the line at being immodest?

I do. I doubt that’s going to change.

I trust the men do not as they are preoccupied with modesty, so, this, again, is for the ladies.

There are shorts, and then there are shorts. Not all shorts are immodest. Or is there something particularly immodest about knees?
If you wear a longish skirt and there’s a sudden gust of wind, you could be showing a lot more than knees. If you ask a man what’s sexier, a skirt or a pair of generic, medium length shorts, he’s gonna say the skirt. If by modesty, you mean wearing something that doesn’t call attention to sexuality, a skirt isn’t it. Nor is a dress.

I didn’t understand what you said about men and shorts. A lot of men wear shorts.

I am a rather chunky:p 61 y/o, so I don’t wear shorts. I did when I was (much)younger, although they were what you call Bermuda shorts.

I see nothing wrong with shorts as long as you leave something to the imagination.

Okay, just one thing. Not all men who avoid shorts do so for modesty.

I hate wearing shorts because they’re too kiddie for me. XP Cargoes FTW!!

Me, too, BlyssfulDreamer; I’m right behind you in age. I occasionally wear my one pair of denim bermudas when it’s 100 degrees but I usually don’t go farther than the gas station in them. Long jeans for me from now on until I die. Darnit.

So, if shorts are immodest, I guess that means bathing suits are totally out, huh? No swimming? Or do we need to swim in skirts? Or are pants ok? If we stay completely submerged are shorts ok? Oh, wait. They’d be wet, and that wouldn’t be good. No. No swimming, I guess.

Properly fitting, knee-length shorts are not immodest for men or women. Shorts are not *appropriate *to wear many places that nice dress-pants would be fine, but that’s not because of modesty as much as formality. I think sometimes we get them mixed up.

I personally don’t like shorts, but certain shorts are fine, like the longer ones…When it’s hot, I wear skirts, below knee…But only the short shorts are immodest…🙂

I don’t understand how a knee length skirt is any more modest than a knee length pair of shorts. 🤷 Just as a mini skirt is inappropriate so are “short” shorts. Besides no one wants to see the cheeks hangin out.

On another note why are pants immodest anyways? They show less skin than skirts do. And yes jeans show off a womans “curves” but so do most skirts. 🤷 So to answer the question, yes I wear shorts (the knee length or just below knee length) and still wearing then in 50 degree weather.👍

the people around here are very good and do not deserve the punishment of seeing me walk around in shorts, so I don’t inflict that upon them, and wear them only for yard work, housework, exercising etc. That is a personal choice made from vanity, not morality. Can you please explain how this topic is relevant to current forum?

Yes, although I do make sure they are the longer variety.

Hehe - for the same reason I don’t EVEN wear them for the above, the only exceptions being the handful of days a year where it gets so unbearably hot that even longer shorts are too much. And certainly never ever ever in front of guests or outside the house.

I wear shorts around the house/yard and for an occassional trip to the store, errands, etc. Other than that, I prefer capris.

Well I only wear shorts inside of the house and I rarely even do that…
Today it therefore would look rather strange if I wore them outside because the skin on my legs is ultra white… I usually wear pants that are not too tight and on rare occasions I wear Capris… I guess it’s just a preference for me, because I have very strong legs (and that looks too masculine for my liking, especially the lower part)…

I stopped wearing shorts years ago when my teenage son pointed out that I didn’t have to wear them, something I probably wouldn’t have figured out on my own. Anyway, I don’t have great legs and I find dresses more comfortable for summer. I just really like dresses, the ones that fall below my knee. So then when it gets cold I put on jeans or other pants, simply because it seem to be much more challenging to wear dresses all winter. The shoes, tights, boots, and such are much more difficult to coordinate than just the summer shoe and dress combination. For mass I always wear a dress or skirt all year round. It was a gradual evolution of change for me with aging and preference over the past twelve years or so. I have become increasingly interested in the modesty/femininity issues for myself. So, no, I never wear shorts.

:rotfl:

I wear shorts to bed, or while swimming at the beach. Not around town. I tend to dress pretty modest. I don’t feel there is anything wrong with wearing shorts as long as they are not too short. Knee-length feels appropriate to me.
