I made a post on another thread and mentioned I had thought about starting a thread on this subject. I also have another thread to discuss those ‘extra or other non-Biblical’ doctrines Catholics hear in a lot of discussions. I provide scriptures and attribute our differences to interpretational differences, even though most Protestants won’t admit that.
Now, I’d like to discuss an ‘extra’ doctrine of a lot of Protestant Churches, that is not only ‘extra’, or ‘non-Biblical’, but seems to be against scriptures.
I used to visit an Assembly of God Church forum, where several women pastors/preachers posted. When I asked them about the scriptures teaching against women speaking in the Churches or to use Church to speak with authority over a man, they explained it was outdated and only pertained to those times.
This appears to be ‘taking away from scriptures’. What else can we say is outdated and only pertained to those times?
If the scriptures are the only authority for all people, how can this be ignored? How can it be for all, but not all generations? How do we decide what scriptures we are allowed to ignore?
**1Co 14:34 Let women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted them to speak but to be subject, as also the law saith.
1Co 14:35 But if they would learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church.
Gen 3:16 To the woman also he said: I will multiply thy sorrows, and thy conceptions: in sorrow shalt thou bring forth children, and thou shalt be under thy husband’s power, and he shall have dominion over thee.
Tit 2:1 But speak thou the things that become sound doctrine:
Tit 2:2 That the aged men be sober, chaste, prudent, sound in faith, in love, in patience.
Tit 2:3 The aged women, in like manner, in holy attire, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teaching well:
Tit 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be wise, to love their husbands, to love their children.
Tit 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, sober, having a care of the house, gentle, obedient to their husbands: that the word of God be not blasphemed.
1Ti 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
1Ti 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to use authority over the man: but to be in silence.
1Co 11:8 For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.
1Co 11:9 For the man was not created for the woman: but the woman for the man.**
Any thoughts?
