Women priesthood or ordination is invalid in the Eyes of the Catholic Church as well as the Orthodox Church.

because he commissioned Twelve Men to be Apostles. Not Twelve Women. If Jesus established that women priesthood, he would have chosen six men and six women.

However, see no where in Scripture that he commissioned women as one of the Twelve Apostle.
There is more to the story that just the Apostles. Plus, some linguists say that one of the people explicitely identified by Paul as an apostle was a woman. Order some of the articles from “Christians for Biblical Equality,” cbeinternational.org/new/free_articles/free_articles.shtml. There is a lot more to the story that what you know of.

Plus, in the days of St Augustine there were women priests in Celtic Britian, and Rome knew this, and I don’t think Rome didn’t complain. I’ve never heard that anybody complained about them. The women were accepted in the Celtic lands.

Does the Church favor man over woman? Did Jesus say this? Please explain.
Read 1 Corinthians 14:34-35

This backs up what the Church teaches about women priests.

It has nothing to do with the dignity of women, by the way. This is just the way Christ wants it. He knows best.

The best explaination of why women can’t be priests was given to me in the context of marriage.

Adam and Eve were male and female who could come together to give us life. But their fall meant that they could not give us spiritual everlasting life (or sanctifying grace). But God has a plan, and true to his plan, he needs a male and female to give us spiritual life. God wants us to have a new Adam and a new Eve.

The new Adam is the Bridegroom, Jesus. The new Eve is His Bride, The Church.

A priest acts in the person of Christ (aka persona Christi), and shares in his nuptial relationship with The Church. This is why we call a priest Father (much to the dismay of Protestants), not out of reverence or respect, but because we recognise the role the priest plays in our spiritual life. A woman priest would be in a homosexual relationship with The Church, and such relationships can not produce life, not even spiritual life.

This is our understanding as to why God chose men to be priests.

As women I would that the Catholic Church has a lot of respect for women. I won’t get into biblical arguements because that’s not my forte, nor will I get in the historical aspect of it because someone will point out that some person some where did something different than everyone so that must mean its okay.

What I want to point out is that so many people feel that the Catholic Church must not respect women because they don’t ordain women. Every person has their role to play. God designed everything to work together and compliment each other. Men (at least as of right now) cannot be pregnant. That role is reserved just for women. Does that mean that God is sexist and hates men? Of course not, God gave each of us our own role to play, and we should try to do it to the best of our ability instead of tryng to take the roles meant for other. I doubt many men are jealous because once I month I get to have a period and major p.m.s. and have the possiblity of having children someday. Just as I don’t get jealous of that fact that men get to be priest and I don’t.

I know that someone will claim otherwise, but we all have roles to play. The Catholic Church acknowledges these roles and does her best to provide opportunities to her children. If I feel inclined to the religous life there are hundreds of orders that I could join. Different does not necessarily mean worse, or better for that matter. Men and women are different and therefore there are different opportunities provided for each sex.

Just my two cents,

Yes. And in Jesus’ time people bathed maybe 3 times a month. And yet, we feel no need to criticize clergy for bathing more often.
Not sure really understand this. I am a man, so I just to get that out there. I come from a family of strong women. I think that women ARE the stronger of the two sexes. But why is it everything has to be the same in order to be equal? I have never understood this. Did the nuns who taught me in gradeschool have less of an effect in my life because they were nuns and not priests? Don’t think so. Why did God create women to have babies and not men? Because they are unequal? No, because he gave us different gifts, different responsibilites. Does that make one more important than the other? One less equal? I always get a little miffed when I see nuns clamoring for women priests, as if their gifts and work were somehow less. Maybe if they concentrated more on their work and not so many non religious and power stuff we would have more nuns in the church. Just rambling now i know. Women priests and male nuns in nun habits. We all have to be equal dont we? So everything has to be the same. How boring is that.

Your response was so much better than mine!! Well said.

"The reason priests are men is because they are acting in persona Cristi. Jesus was a man therefore priests must be male. "

I don’t know why the fuzz, it is not hard to understand, except for what is to be gained by those who are so vocal about this. I have a pretty good idea, and again it is pride.
Those who are for women priests, listen to your heart, where the Holy Spirit dwells, and in truth listen to Him, do you really feel that women priests are what is needed in the church, or is it another wall going up between believers in Jesus, whose foundation is being laid by the evil one.

Love and Mercy is the Lord’s.

No not at all. And neither does God favor women over men being only women can birth children; each have their differing roles. Another reason why women can’t be priests in Catholicism (this may have been addressed already, I’m not sure) is because within the Catholic Mass the priest is what’s known as* persona chirsti *which means in the person of Christ. He represents
Christ who in scripture is known as the groom as the church is the bride of Christ. In the Mass the priest represents the groom since he represents Christ and the participants represent the bride as they represent the marriage feast of Christ and His bride the church. So it would be against the natural moral law of God to have a woman priest in the Mass as a bride and a bride is not a marriage and is against the natural moral law of God.

There some Protestant clergy that allow women priesthood. This concept develop in the modern sexual revolution. Women priesthood was never established by Jesus Christ.

To prove my case, in the OT the Levite priesthood were all men not women. Since Jesus is a Jew, he established that his Church will be run by men. He commissioned Twelve Men as his Apostles. There were indeed women disciple but they took no part in early Church affair.

There were no women in the Council of Jerusalem, only elders, and men. The Catholic Church as well as the Orthodox Church upheld that women should not be priest because it was never established by Jesus Christ himself.

The Bishops who are the successors of the Apostles are men. So ordination of women by an Church is therefore invalid.
Did Jesus ever say that women absolutely should never be part of clergy?? You seem to think you know everything.

Where does it say in the Bible that women should be clergy? I’m interested in your answer and no, I don’t think that Manny thinks he knows everything.

Jesus didn’t say a lot of things so you can’t base theological truths on what Jesus didn’t say alone.

i was thinking that the issue of women and men in the New Testament could be explained this way: We are allone and the man is not without the woman or the woman without the man because we are really deep-down equal. And God made the first person male and female in His image – the inventor of both sexes, who is beyond male or female. But when He separated one side of that person to be a separate person, He put most of the masculinity in the first one and most of the femininity in the second one because femininity has a great deal to do with being social. Woman needs to be with others. However, wonderful as that can be, it means a woman is more susceptible to pressure unless she disciplines herself to overcome it. Thus, the woman was deceived first, and the man wouldn’t have been lured to sin unless the woman first had been. After that, we were equally sinful, but women, still being socially oriented, are still more easily pressured by anyone. men are mostly only pressurable by women. So men are more fit for priesthood because they are only about half as easily influenced by others’ opinions. Thus they can enforce rules more consistently.
However, studies have shown that in the universally recognized feminine and masculine traits, a third of women are more masculine than the average man and a third of men more feminine than the average woman. These are personality traits, not biological ones, of course. So maybe a few women have what it takes to be priests, but it is basically a man’s kind of niche.🤷

The point is in the Jewish priesthood. There were no priestess. You are a Jew and you should know that the Levite priest were men, and that so are the Aaron’s son who are to be consecrated to the Holy of Holies.
Were all of theapostles levite jews? Are all priests today levite Jews?

There were no women priests in those days. The priestess then were pagan not Christian. Show me a writing of the ECF who advocated women priesthood. There is none.

Tell me where the 12 Apostles male or female? Was the Levite priesthood women or men?

Second, show me an Early Church Father that advocated female priesthood. The Christian Church since its birth did not ordain women as priests. Do research on Church history and you’ll see that Jesus Christ did not establish a priesthood upon women.

Put it this way, in the Catholic Church, priests are consider married to the Church. The Church is the spouse of the priests. While religious women are consider the bride of Christ. In the Bible the Church is symbolically show as the bride of Christ.

Women priesthood would imply that they are married to the Church which in term would encourage same sex union. Second, when the priest consecrate the Body and Blood, he does it in the Person of Christ. Persona Christi. This is also applied in Confession.

If this is applied in female priesthood, it would feel very strange a woman act in the Person of Christ.

If you have not noticed. Since the Anglican Church ordain women, I was not surprise they ordain homosexual priests and bishops.

Jesus Christ didn’t establish His Church to have women priest. The Church Herself cannot ordain women priest period. Why? Because like I said numerous times, Jesus didn’t have a woman as one of the twelve Apostles. Since the Bishops and priests are the successors of the Apostles.

I am just saying that Jesus Christ did not founded his Church on female clergy particularly that they should not serve as female priest.

Jesus commissioned 12 men as his 12 Apostles.

A case of actions speaking louder than words. Christ only ordained men, hence: the twelve apostles.

I am not disagreeing with your positions in the slightest. I am 100% behind your reasoning in this. My question was for Nella whom suggested that Jesus did commission women as priests.
