The root of secular equality is based on pride and selfishness. It’s not about the intrinsic value and dignity of each human being, it’s about getting your slice of the pie. I do not know of a single secular civil rights movement that has any nobility or godliness to it.
One of the hard points of trying to say something to a deaf person is that I think they don’t believe that we actually believe what we are saying. An orthodox person that plainly explains that it is ontologically impossible for a woman to be a priest might go to explain the invaluable services that woman holy orders have contributed over the centuries, and the immense good that they done to such a point that without them it would be as though the Church were breathing with a single lung. But the opposition doesn’t seem to think we actually believe that. It’s as though we’re just making up excuses, and deep down, the only reason we’re against female priests is because we have an arbitrary bias against women. The crisis of holy women in the US is like a famine to parishes.
It fills my heart with fear to think that if all female US nuns just focused on loving God as Mary did, then the female holy orders in America would be flourishing right now. Not only are they betraying their own role, but they are making it harder for those that may wish to fill it. God help them.
