Then I am glad we agree that a wife must sometimes (at least under special circumstances) exercise authority over her husband.
If he is unconscious or not in his right mind is she really exercising authority over him? Or simply picking up where he cannot.
Of course.
Otherwise you couldn’t exercise authority over babies or animals.

🙂 Cool. But he is not submitting to her because he cannot.

The woman, of course. 🙂 Choosing to submit does not mean turning off your brain. Submission is no easy thing you know? It takes a great deal of self control and courage.
I hope you realize that over the course of our argument you have conceded more and more authority to the wife in our metaphorical marriage.
It appears you are not fully committed to the ideal of wifely submission.

No, I think you misunderstand what I mean by submission. 🙂 We have agreed on many points throughout our conversation it’s just that you seem to be angling from a more extreme submission point then I am.

No, submitting when you know that you don’t have to, takes courage (or at least self-discipline).
Submitting out of fear or resignation (which happens quite often to both men and women) is NOT a sign of courage or self-control.

Babies (and animals too dumb to train) don’t consciously submit either.

I do not advocate ANYONE submitting out of fear or resignation. I would never advocate any such thing.

When we are speaking in context of a loving marriage the submission that happens is an entirely different thing and should never be born out of fear or resignation.

The conversation is interesting, but it really belongs in either family or sacraments. It has trailed off into marriage and away from women’s authority in the Church.
