You’re way off. I’m not trying to win anything. I was asking if there was a theological reason based on scrpture (Not tradition or the “teaching authority” of the pope). MaryJ was gracious enogh to provide one (although I stated my problems with it). Sillara also gave her opinion that she perfer the lack of voting rights rather than WO(consistent with St Paul).Hi VARC,
You asked Catholics the theological reasons for the Church not allowing women’s ordination. You were answered (several times) from Sacred Tradition and Scripture, in light of the teaching authority given to His Church by Christ. You’re obviously not satisfied with the answer, but it is the Catholic answer and so it’s the only one you’re going to get.
Repeating your (IMO flimsy) objections over and over isn’t going to get you the answer you want. If this means, in your mind, that you’ve “won” the discussion, so be it.
I don’t know why many Roman Catholics feel the need to instictively react so defensively to the question. Why they feel compelled to parrot papal teaching instead of attempting to answer the question. If your position is that WO should be banned because the pope says so (ie because you believe “teaching authority given to His Church by Christ”), then I’m not really talking to you. The only reason JPII gave was that Christ didn’t appoint women. I have very aptly explained why that is a fallacious reason. For many RCs, it doesn’t matter. The answer (fallacious or not) came from the pope, so it isn’t challenged. And that’s the what you call “the Catholic answer”.
But there are many intelligent and articulate RCs on this forum. I am asking them if they believe there is a better theological reason based on scrpture to ban WO. If the ban is based on tradition and papal teaching, just say so. Don’t get offended and think I’m out to “win” anything.
