Sherlock and Agricola:

Is it just me or do you fellas notice that many and I mean a great percentage of the questions throughout this forum is answered by the Theology of the Body? I tend to agree with C. West or Weigel when they say that the TOB is so well put together that it is actually underlying every theme in the bible and Catholic theology. It seems to me that Thomistic philosophy has been dancing solo and after 700+ years it finally found its true dancing partner in the TOB (Christianized phenomenology). It’s so cool to look at a topic from the objective/realistic philosophy side(get blown away) then look at it again from the phenomenological side(and get blown away again!). I think this approach will be the catechistic style for the 3rd millenium.

Just some thoughts.

in XT.
I agree, but is it not better to call it OEM instead of TOB.

Teach men how to dance in every aspect of life then beautiful things will happen. 😃

Due to a lack of natural rhythm I cannot dance. :crying: So, please don’t teach guys to dance. I don’t want to feel all alone in my danceless state.:o

I think that what Kendy is asking, and what hasn’t been answered, is why do so many Protestant sites seem obsessed with the male/female role and submission/authority subject. There isn’t the same obsession on this site.

For all you former fundamentalists, evangilical Protestants…what is the difference?

After 45 years of marriage to the same woman and having been aquainted with many other couples, It is my opinion that in the best marriages the husband and wife recognize and utilize each others strengths. For example my wife has been an excellent manager of our finances while I have trouble keeping a dime in my pocket. I am better at carpenter work and cabinet building while she is skilled at painting and finishing. I am the better cook while she is good at gardening and lawn care. Major decisions are usually arrived at by working to a concensus. We were fortunate that she was able to stay home with our six kids until the youngest entered 1st Grade. After that she worked for a year as a chemist(her degree was in chemistry) and then not really liking chemical work she joined the IRS and became an auditor in a short time. Of course like every couple we have had our ups and downs and plenty of arguements, but eventually it seemed we could get back in synch and we are still together.

Because Catholics, in general, do not believe that every rule/role depicted in the OT is necessarily a rule/role that applies without modification or outright abrogation today. Some do, but some just don’t. A lot of the Mosiac law is behind a lot of the rules/roles defined by the Sharia of the Muslim world. Compare the Mosiac Law in its entirity with the Sharia and you will see. Similarily there are some things in the New Testament world that just don’t fit a Western society and I am not saying that adultry, fornication etc. are OK. What was the legitimate culture in the Middle East in the year 1 is not what is the legitimate culture in the Western World today. What passed as immodest in the US in 1918 would be far from immodest today. I guess I am trying to say we have to use “common sense” in the best sense of the phrase.

This is exactly my experience.
How can there be one generic formula when every couple is so different?
There must be mutual respect, mutual submission.
One serving the other and vice versa.

To try and force a “one size fits all” standard to all marriages is a surefire recipe for many divorces.

It’s been my personal experience that those who seem to be bent on forcing this agenda on other christians are chauvenists, and I find them to be very unappealing…but that is just my opinion 😃

Divorce comes with the fighting, over the center of the marraige, in a Christ centered marraige their is no fighting for the attention of the center. And better still the children do not have to decide. The whole family is better off. Abel said that the Real Presence was what made the family work. Cain said no and killed Abel. All kind of sin occur when you take Christ away from the center of marraige. This is the written word this is the thruth.
