The memorial service is in November on her birthday, and I’m a bit worried about my Aunt because she’s been known to cause a scene. I think the response that her hands were closed to embrace Jesus’ hands might be the closest to the kind of thing she would listen to!

My Mother has Alzheimer’s and, at times, her hands freeze. Part of the disease.

My husband’s hands also freeze because of arthritist.

Very superstitious of your aunt. and none of you should have even given this ridiculous statment any thought other than to tell her go see a priest. What would ever make you think this was a teaching of the church?

There is no credible Christian religion, Catholic or other, that teaches this. Jesus taught us that it is the condition of our hearts, not the configuration of our hands, that matters to Him. Any such teaching regarding clenched hands is based on abject ignorance and should be dismissed summarily.
