I attended a different church for Mass today and I was surprised that the wording was different for the Lamb of God. Instead of “Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world”, he said “Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world”. I thought that the priest was forbidden to add or delete words to the Mass.

I am not trying to nit pick. I am just curious if this is just a difference between missals or a mistake. My wife thinks that the different wording is from the Episcopal church and shouldn’t be used in the Catholic Mass. I would appreciate any insight that anyone could give me.

We are not supposed to. When it comes to the Ordinary of the Mass there is no permission to say or sing anything but what is in the Roman Missal. Repetition of a line is acceptable for musical reasons but not a change in the text.

Intentionally, yes; but priests being human slip ups are known to happen from time to time. That said, even if the addition was intentional (be it on the part of the priest or someone else) in the scheme of things it’s really not worth worrying about.
