I recently fell into what I believe was a mortal sin involving myself and a young woman I met one night after having way too much to drink. We did not have sex, but we were also clearly using each other for sexual gratification. I want to go to Confession, but I’m afraid to go to confess this sin to my priest. He has known me since I was very young, and, thanks to him, my parents, and my parish, I was (until recently) able to resist temptations of the flesh. I don’t know how to confess my sin. I don’t know if I would be able to express the actions of my sin, especially to him, since I have known him for so long and I don’t want to disappoint him. I’m really lost. I’ve been praying on this matter and I still feel afraid to go. Even if I were to go to another church to confess, I still am afraid to explain what happened.

Be not afraid…priests have heard it all…

One is obliged to confess Mortal sins in number and kind (and circumstance that changes it…like the person you murdered was your brother).

Adultery 2x… murder 3x

Perhaps go to the other parish and confess …

But certainly make an act of perfect contrition now…then get to confession as soon as you can.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd and he loves you and wants us to have true life…

go to him…

Just go to another church, no problem. No priest will think this is a big deal. Trust me they have heard worse sins than this. God be with you. Quit worrying.👍

Well, when you say ‘we didn’t have sex’ it’s a little unclear what you mean. You should say enough so the priest knows in general what you are confession without giving the gory details.

You can just say something like, “I had way to much too drink one night and sinned against purity with a girl I just met. We touched each other and ended up with some of our clothes off but then we stopped.” or “we slow danced with each other in an inappropriate way for a long time” or “we French kissed for a long time” or “We had oral sex.” or “We didn’t have intercourse but we brought each other to orgasm”. You don’t have to go into detail about how you did what you did or exactly what form it took.

You will not disappoint the priest who knows you by confessing a sexual sin. It’s much more likely that he will be proud of you for coming to confession. But don’t worry so much about how he will feel but how happy Jesus is with you for being sorry and asking for His forgiveness and wanting to live a chaste life.

And be sure to ask for God’s forgiveness now, if you haven’t already done so, and trust in His mercy. You probably already know to do that but I mention it because some people seem to think you have to wait for confession to say you’re sorry.
