We will celebrate the month of All Souls very soon, and I want to share something in advance that may bring comfort to anyone who mourns.
I had difficulty sleeping last night and decided to flick on the TV to stop the deluge of thoughts that may have been keeping me awake. Coincidentally (no, providentially!) Father Corapi was on at 1:15 a.m. and the immediate words I heard were so timely that I felt it was a very special grace and an answer to prayer. Had I waited just one more minute to turn on the TV, I would have missed it!
He said that God is eternal and outside of time and knew the exact moment (someone’s loved one) would commit suicide. Being eternal, He also knew the many years of prayers and tears the family member offered for this decedent. At the moment of death, since time is not a factor with God, He may gather all of the sacrifices and prayers into one and apply them to the decedent and grant salvation.
Father then reminded the audience of St. Ambrose’s words to St. Monica; that nobody who prayed with that many tears would see their loved on lost.
Only a few hours before my husband unexpectedly died recently, I felt deeply moved to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet – solely for him, with intense fervor and devotion. I felt certain that what Father Corapi said was true in my case, that God took all of my years of prayers, including the last Chaplet, and applied them to him for salvation.
May God comfort all who are concerned about their loved ones, and speak assurance to their hearts. He is all-merciful!
