Words of Confirmation

Can anyone tell me what the official words are to be used to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Latin Rite? I’ve read different things on this and wanted to be sure, if you could provide a source I’d be very grateful.

I know of the Canon 880 §1. The sacrament of confirmation is conferred by the anointing of chrism on the forehead, which is done by the imposition of the hand and through the words prescribed in the approved liturgical books.

I went to newadvent and one thing was said, which was contrary from what was said at an actual confirmation. My concern is more with the “approved liturgical books”. Does anyone know which books these are and what they say in this matter?

canon law is not the source you want, the rite of confirmation is what you are asking for. if you have a missal handy it will be in the Easter Vigil.

the prayer during the laying on of hands is
All powerful God, Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ
by water and the Holy Spirit
you freed your sons and daughters from sin
and gave them new life
Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper and guide
Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding
the spirit of right judgement and courage
the spirit of knowledge and reverence
Fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe in your presence
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

be careful with New Advent it was correct in its day, but not for things like rites and canon law which have changed since it was written nearly 100 years ago
 
Here’s my copy of the rite. The document I copied it from was from a confirmation with only one person, a woman, so these would be adapted if it was one man being confirmed, or multiple people. But here it is:

Addressing the confirmand:
N., by your Baptism you have been born again in Christ and you
have become a member of Christ and of his priestly people. Now you are
to share in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit among us, the Spirit sent by the
Lord upon his apostles at Pentecost and given by them and their successors
to the baptized.

The promised strength of the Holy Spirit, which you are to receive, will
make you more like Christ and help you to be witnesses to his suffering,
death, and resurrection. It will strengthen you to be an active member of the
Church and to build up the Body of Christ in faith and love.

Addressing the people:
My dear friends, let us pray to God our Father, that he will pour out the Holy
Spirit on this candidate for Confirmation to strengthen her with his gifts and
anoint her to be more like Christ, the Son of God.

Sponsor puts right hand on the shoulder of the candidate, and leaves it
there until anointing is finished.

All-powerful God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by water and the Holy Spirit
you freed your sons and daughters from sin

Send your Holy Spirit upon your daughter
to be her helper and guide.

Give her the spirit of wisdom and understanding,

Priest anoints the forehead of the candidate saying:
N. [or Confirmation Name], be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. R/ Amen.

Peace be with you. R/ And also with you.
The priest the washes his hands, using lemons if needed.
