Words to absolution

My priest absolved me today thusly,

"I absolve you from your sin (note the singular), Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (note the lack of “In the Name of”)

Was this valid?
 
I wouldn’t read too much into it – it could have been a slip of his tongue or maybe you misheard. Give the priest the benefit of the doubt.

The only words necessary are “I absolve you” for a valid absolution.

Be at peace.

Yes it was valid. Please consider that you may indeed have misheard, he may have been mumbling or simply tripped over his words. Pease do give your priest the benefit of the doubt. You went to confession with a good intention and contrition, said your sins, and he absolved you. All is well.

And even then, there is variation allowed for in a valid absolution.

The Eastern Catholics use the passive form " You are absolved…"
