Work as writer or editor?

Hi,
Lately I have been trying to figure out what kind of jobs to look for and a lot of people have been telling me I should work as a writer or editor. Enough people have recommended that I do so, that I can’t really ignore it anymore. Even my first spiritual director and confessor (who died very young of cancer a couple years ago) insisted that I should do something involving writing. I would like to be able to make some income writing but I don’t really know how. All I know is that I think God wants me to do something involving writing, many people who know me well have recommended the same, but I don’t know how to get into such a profession or vocation. Please pray that I discern what God wants me to do with my writing gifts and that I can possibly make an income doing so.

May St. Francis de Sales intercede for you. Usually, one has to have a job that supports oneself, and write in the available time, or on breaks. Then one can move on to a writing job once a portfolio has been developed. If you don’t have a portfolio, don’t go looking for a writing job.

Creative Writing in College usually does not give anyone the “how to find a job” part. And editors? Here’s a bit of info: study.com/how_to_become_an_editor.html

What do you like to/feel drawn to write? How much have you written? As a working editor, and writer, I know it just takes work. There are books about how to write.

I think being a good editor requires good writing skills. I mean, I can’t do my work if I don’t understand the writing process. What works and what doesn’t and why.

There are many places where you can get your work published, but I pray that God helps you discern where to go and who to contact.
