Wow, I just learned of this only this week!! I want to share it with you all who may not know of it either.

Work began in 1882 on the basilica Sagrada Familia in Barcelona Spain. Hopes are that it will be ready by 2026… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagrada_familia

Its a great project but I’m not fond of the impressionistic artwork. Just my opinion.
 
WOW! I think it will be absolutely beautiful - that is, if it’s ever finished! I’m amazed that something of this magnitude with a beginning construction year of 1882 was not just abandoned long, long ago. It’s so intricate; it reminds me of lace for some reason.

I love this building; Gaudi is one of the most interesting architects known to mankind.
 
(The first thought thru my head when I saw the pics was “looks like something one would see on the Vegas Strip”… 😦 )

Not sure what you mean by “impressionistic artwork.” I was there in 2010 - that’s just what it looks like!
 
Please, please, please don’t pollute it with modern architecture!

The whole building is festooned with points! 😛

I was lucky to catch the Mass of Dedication on EWTN a while back. It truly is beautiful inside and it’s on my list of places to go one day.
 
When I first saw pictures of it, I didn’t care for it. Now I love it. Now I want to see it. Completed.

Anything but that scary St. John the Divine.

I think the Barcelona Basilica is cool.

I had to look up St. John the Divine. And at first was thinking “whats wrong with that church?” And then I saw a picture from above. Then I understood. I am also not super found of mismatched towers, but understand it was an acceptable technique, especially for cash strapped churches.
 
It’s not my favorite, but it is infinitely better than the “Crystal Cathedral” and the Maytag. 🙂
