I just became a Certified Nursing Assistant at a nursing home in February 2010. I’ve been working for about 2 months now and trying to get everything done at a reasonable hour, but I was called into my Unit Manager’s office today and was told that I’m not getting people up on time. I’m supposed to get everything done by 10:00am, but I got the last person up at 11:45am today. I can’t seem to get everything done by the time they need. My time management is terrible. I was told that I will have to change shifts (I’m currently on morning shift, so I would change to evening shift or night shift). I’ve wondered if I am not meant to be a nursing assistant and my U.M. told me she thinks the same. It was so hard to hear, but she meant very well. She’s been very patient with me and has stood up for me in the past.
I hate the fact that I can’t get everything done. I’m too detail oriented which means I’m spending WAY more time on things that I shouldn’t be.
Please pray for me that I can either improve my time, or that the shift change will make things easier. The other alternative would be to move to a different position (non-nursing) within the nursing home.
