Since Sunday and other feasts technically begin on the previous evening (which is why a Saturday evening Mass fulfills the obligation and why the Sunday prayers in LOTH start Saturday evening) does that mean that we should rest on Saturday evening and not work?

I usually do lots of chores on Saturday evening so I won’t have to do it on Sunday … but I’m realizing perhaps that’s not right.

Canon law states that the day is midnight to midnight, so Sunday begins at midnight. The abstain from work or busness applies to Sunday or the Holy Day itself, not to the day before.

Can. 202 §1. In law, a day is understood as a period consisting of 24 continuous hours and begins at midnight unless other provision is expressly made; a week is a period of 7 days; a month is a period of 30 days, and a year is a period of 365 days unless a month and a year are said to be taken as they are in the calendar.
§2. If time is continuous, a month and a year must always be taken as they are in the calendar.

Can. 1247 On Sundays and other holydays of obligation, the faithful are obliged to assist at Mass. They are also to abstain from such work or business that would inhibit the worship to be given to God, the joy proper to the Lord’s Day, or the due relaxation of mind and body.

Can. 1248 §1 The obligation of assisting at Mass is satisfied wherever Mass is celebrated in a catholic rite either on a holyday itself or on the evening of the previous day.
