According to the Modern Catholic Dictionary, “grievous matter” is “Moral obligations that are binding under pain of mortal sin”. Since the Bishop said grievous sin, I am sure he was intending to point out that it is a mortal sin.And you process that to mean mortal sin?
I have never heard of the good Bishop.
Does he speak universally for the Church?
hmmmm. Now if you had something from the official Catechism…:ehh:
It says that two priests that work in the seminary “painstakingly” reviewed the book, catechists and members of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine have found it invaluable in catechizing adults & children, and priests & schools of the country were quite fond of it by implementing it in the school catechism and using it in homilies. I think that it has at least some credibility to it, too, from the fact that a Bishop wrote it. However, I could not find a direct statement in the Catechism of the Church that says excess servile work is a mortal sin.
