Maybe this should be in the moral theology section, but involves a social justice ministry.
I have a job interview tomorrow for a position which will allow me to work in a social justice ministry for the homeless. Though it seems like a position in an area I have always thought I would like to be involved in, I’m not sure if it is truly of God’s will, or my own. It is a position at a main-line protestant supported shelter for homeless veterans. The position is part a faith based initiative program to help get the veteran integrated back into society. The program doesn’t involve teaching the vets about the faith but helping them to become productive in society. Would this be a proper position for a Catholic to seek? If anything in the long run it would give me experience to use a similar Catholic sponsor ministry in the future. What do you fellow Catholics think? Protestant brothers and sisters?

I would have no problem with it, as long as you aren’t expected to participate in chapel services or evangelize using their theology. I know many Catholics, myself included, who work for healthcare and social service agencies run by Protestant denominations and organizations.

Pretty much what CarrieH said, except I’m protestant.
I’d have no prob working in a Catholic shelter, and maybe
we could all learn a little from each other, and come out
better for it.

I would think if you are doing what you like and like what you do, that it would be ok. You may have a chance to speak up for your faith too.
