Question 1
Hello is it ok to work of the sabbath or make money on both the sabbath and lords day if one needs it?

Question 2
Is the sabbath and not the lords day the day we take rest from work ?

Opinions welcome

I believe the general rule is to avoid “unnecessary” work on the Sabbath.

That being said, what is deemed “necessary” may vary from person to person. If you have to work and make money or your family will go hungry, I’d think that work would be considered “necessary.”

Unless you are taking the Orthodox Jewish stance on “work.” In which case, even turning on the light or driving a car would be considered “work” and should be avoided.

Catholics (and most other Christians) observe the sabbath on The Lord’s Day, not on Sabbath day (aka Saturday).

So you don’t have to recognize 2 days of rest.

It’s a incorrect teaching that has spread far and wide that the sabbath is on Sunday

John are you Jewish or Christian? Jewish people hold the Sabbath to be Saturday. Christians follow the Sunday tradition. There is much confusion about this.

I never said the Sabbath is on Sunday. It is Saturday. I said Christians “observe” the Sabbath In Sunday. Just like companies “observe” the Christmas holiday on Dec 26th when Christmas is on a Sunday.

God Bless

Until God says the commandments to keep the 7th day holy is removed Christians should follow this !

We do keep the 7th day Holy. The day we just celebrated, Easter Sunday. Jesus said He had not come to change one stroke of a pen, or mark from the law. Do you know that verse.

Then you understand it is the greatest day, it represents triumph and a great sacrifice for us. Ask yourself this, would the witnessess to the resurrection and the early Church , and infact Jesus in the 40 days after, have been celebrating on the Saturday or the Sunday.

why were gentile Christians not circumcised.

Uhmm, the Bible is pretty explicit as to when Jesus resurrected:

Mark 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
Mark 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

Oh sorry I just realized my mistake I meant to type Sunday as the first day

Jews, because they are still waiting for the Messiah to come, continue to observe the Sabbath law. No work on the Sabbath.

Christians aren’t under the Covenant God made with the Jews. Jesus is our rest. He is the fulfillment of the Law. We celebrate the Lord’s Day which is Sunday, the first day of the week. (And Catholics can go to Mass on Saturdays as well.)

If the work is necessary, then the Christian works. How would you feel if your child needed emergency medical attention but didn’t receive it because the drs, paramedics, hospitals, etc were all closed because no one was willing to give up their Sunday so that people could receive that help?

You say you want to be a priest. Well, like the priesthood, the medical profession is 24/7/365. So is the fire department.

Helping and taking care of others is a way of serving God. And that kind of work, whether one is paid for it or not, is not to be ignored Sabbath or no.

It could be that the resurrection was on sunday, the day after Shabat, because resurrection can in some way be interpreted as ‘work’ from the Torah commandments. I would examine this more closely if I had the time, maybe later today.

From the Apology of St Justin written about the year 150;

But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Saviour on the same day rose from the dead. For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples, He taught them these things, which we have submitted to you also for your consideration.
