When does self-image become vanity? Is it wrong to want to work out to look attractive for the opposite sex?

It becomes vanity when you obsess with yourself, and thinking you’re all that, rather than just being content with yourself.

Better yet, work out for God! He wants us to love and take care of ourselves, because He made us in His image. I’d say, if you know you can do a better job of taking care of your body, go for it!! 😉

God Bless!

You can’t fast aswell as diet so I would fast sometimes unless dieting is for health. OK, I think if you’re single then it’s normal to want to get in shape if you’re on the pull as they say here in Britain and looking for a mate. If you’re with somebody and that person is putting you under a lot of pressure to maintain a certain body image this is probably not the best for your relationship. IIf you’re a priest then I would eat as much as I like as I’m not trying to attract anybody and I’m off the market. You might aswell make the most of other corporal pleasures such as food, alcohol but also sport etc.

Although the result of working out is perhaps a more attractive body, the health and wellness benefits far out way the superficial ones. Do it to take care of yourself, you owe it to family/future spouses to be preventative rather than have future unnecessary illnesses. The benefits of exercise and proper diet are well proven and written about, not many in this part of the world can deny hearing about them.

edit: I agree with above, it crosses the line to become vanity when it consumes your life or you are obsessed with it. Also if you get into taking unhealthy supplements or steriods (ie bodybuilder etc)
