Hello,

I am looking for Saints who worked for a living (whether on a full time basis or just enough to pay for food and shelter) and also in their free time did theological and spiritual writing, teaching, etc.

All I can think of is Saint Paul who worked as a tent maker to pay for his food, shelter, etc.

St. Joseph, father of Jesus, husband to Mary.

St. Joseph is the patron saint of working men.

This Tuesday we just celebrated the optional memorial of St. Isidore, who was a farmer yet did not own any of his own farm land - he was a migrant, bringing pause for reflection for all the migrant workers in our country (and the world).

He is the patron saint of farmers; farm workers; ranchers; rural communities; Madrid, Spain; United States National Catholic Rural Life Conference; death of children; for rain; livestock.

Saint Thomas More — a lawyer who gave us some profound spiritual writings.

Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) — worked as a college professor (philosophy) before she entered a Carmelite monastery. Some of her writings are about the role of women in the work force and in the family.
