Hi,

I hope this is in the right section, but I am starting this thread to inquire about the book “Works of the Seraphic Father St. Francis Of Assisi,” [London: R. Washbourne, 1882]

saintsbooks.net/books/St.%20Francis%20of%20Assisi%20-%20Works%20of%20the%20Seraphic%20Father.pdf

Is this book accurate and safe for me to read? I notice there is an Imprimatur “William Bernard, Bishop of Brimingham” but that’s all the information I could find on the Imprimatur so I’m not sure.

Any other information you could give me about this book before I read it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for any answers you can provide.

God Bless

Thank you for reading
Josh

I am not an expert, but I remember reading “The Little Flowers of Saint Francis” when I was in my early twenties and loved the inspiring nuggets of wisdom found there.

I looked through the book you posted and it doesn’t sound like there would be found anything wrong in there; and the reader should remember that St. Francis is writing for those who are in his order. At the same time, a lot can be learned about the attitude we should have towards the Lord, and our neighbor, and detachment from many things.

St. Francis truly is a special saint!

That’s a pretty good site which (if I remember correctly) is run by one of our forum members. It’s Traditional, and contains nothing heterodox as far as I can see.

If it’s got an Imprimatur from 1882, I’m sure it’s quite sound. Imprimaturs were a much tougher business in those days.
