Hello I’m new here and I just want to ask a question about works of the Law and Works of Faith.

If A Christian or someone of Faith acts according to one of these works on these two list, its listed as an work or works of faith, and not of the Law.

My question is, if someone who does not have faith in God, but say he feeds the hungry, or visits the imprisoned, or clothed the naked, or gave drink to the thirsty, would they still be working for the works of mercy both spiritual and corporate? or would it be considered the works of law?

Spiritual Works of Mercy
  1. Convert the sinner.
  2. Instruct the ignorant.
  3. Counsel the doubtful.
  4. Comfort the sorrowful.
  5. Bear wrongs patiently.
  6. Forgive injuries.
  7. Pray for the living and the dead.
Corporate Works of Mercy
  1. Feed the Hungry.
  2. Give Drink to the Thirsty.
  3. To Cloth the Naked.
  4. To harbour the harbourless.
  5. To Visit the Sick.
  6. To Visit the imprisoned.
  7. to bury the dead.
Thank You, God Bless, Pax Christi.

See Matthew 25 verses 31-46.

Jesus doesn’t say that only those who know that in kind acts towards others they are giving Him kindness in fact reveals that some will be surprised to find they have in fact been living gospel values of love. He separates the sheep from the goats by virtue of who did act lovingly towards others, and who did not.

I’m not convinced that I would make the distinction that you appear to me making…however I’m sure you will have other responses!

Bless you, Aaron. Welcome to CAF! 🙂 Trishie

19 Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, bear not false witness, do no fraud, honour thy father and mother. 20 But he answering, said to him: Master, all these things I have observed from my youth.
21 **And Jesus looking on him, loved him, and said to him: One thing is wanting unto thee: go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. **
Seems to me that God makes a distinction.
