I respectfully disagree with this idea. This kind of thinking rises from our abysmal education system in which the ideals of our founding fathers have been negated and disavowed. This country was founded on certain ideals and these ideals do not include OWG. Each country is an entity unto itself with different cultures, different ideals and different forms of government. I don’t think this idea of a OWG will fly with most Americans. If it does, we have lost our national identity.

Of course we would. As, if it worked, so would everybody else, which is fine.

I personally think a WG is no more achieveable, now, than a manned NASA mission to Mars next year. Globalism in that sense died in the fires of New York in September 2001. Besides which, can you imagine the Israelis and Iranians, as only 2 examples, signing on to a WG that included each other?

At the same time, some form of global administration needs to be at least thought about. It is the only way to avoid World War 3.

But really, so what? Does God really care about Americans, or Canadians, or any other national identity? I tend to think that he is interested in the City of God, and that that is the place we should be concerned with having citizenship. All of the nations founded by men are temporary.

I respectfully disagree with yours (and I very much appreciate that you were so respectful).

Why does our national identity matter? Why is Americanism a self-evident good? Your response seems predicated on the (unproven and possibly unacknowledged) notion that the American system of government [at least as established by the Founding Fathers] is a good in itself and is itself necessarily good.

Or, the more general and axiomatic notion that nationalism and national sovereignty are themselves necessarily good.

What was previously said by an American about Americanism could as easily be said by a Briton about the monarchy, or by a Frenchman about the Revolution, or by a Russian about the Rodina. All of which assumes that these national values are uncompromisable; and which is superior depends entirely on where one was born.

But nationalism and sovereignty are not sacred; they are only stages in our political evolution, as the tribe, the city state, and feudalism were. While I for one believe that we will all be in Purgatory long before a WG becomes possible, to my mind, it is no more fearsome than the formation of the USA, or the EU were.

Sure, I’m all for it! As long as it is the Catholic Church that is in charge of it. The Church would be the only organization I would trust with such a powerful position.

Peace!👍

One thing in particular prevents a world government from being all that people think it could be: Original Sin. At least with individual nations there is the possibility that at least some will realize that man is not perfectable in and of himself and therefore will not attempt the tyranny of man over man in order to “perfect” (or do away with) the ones who don’t comply with the supposed purity of the regime.

Perhaps it will be like on Star Trec. We will get a world government when we meet the aliens.

We need to break the warp barrier first and sadly Zefram Cochrane won’t be born for another twenty years…
