Last night I had someone come by my house, and luckily my friend answered the door because I wouldnt have been prepared…but it was someone from the ‘World Mission Society Church of God’…which I had never heard of…and, he gave my friend this pamphlet, that went on about how if there is a father, there must be a mother…which was wierd to me, nothing else about God, Heaven…nothing…just…the ‘Mother’…obviously they were hinting at something, like that there was another God, the Mother God of some sort…sooo…I go to wikipedia for a quick summary of thier beliefs…and…I’m just at a loss for words…I guess their church started in 1965 or so…a Japanese man started it and they believe he was the second coming of Jesus, and that a Japanese Lady is the ‘Mother of Jesus’…I’m unclear if these people are still alive today…but yeah, heres a link to what I read about them:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Mission_Society_Church_of_God

I can read this alone, and quickly point out what I feel in my HEART isnt right…or at least not in line with what I’ve been taught, but…I’d appreciate if anyone could help me bring up some good arguments against their points, or…questions I can raise…gimme some ammo cuz my friend gave this guy her number ((shes a sucker for God talk)) and he’s coming back next Wednesday…I’d love to give him a warm catholic welcome 🙂

This sounds very similar to Herbert Armstrong’s Worldwide Church of God…they also believed in the Heavenly Family of sorts. I believe under Garner Ted Armstrong the church moved to more “evangelical/orthodox” theology…but when I read the Wikipedia blurb on WMSCoG…that’s the first group I thought of.

So, as a quaker, I apologize because I’m not really familiar with your beliefs, do you also believe in the holy trinity? It looks like they do, but, they also believe in a God the Mother outside of the holy trinity…

is there any scripture I can quote that supports our argument for the holy trinity, and that that’s what ‘God’ consists of?? I believe in a motherly figure/spirit, being Mary…but…I believe Mary was a human…that was chosen by God the Father to recieve his grace to be able to bring God the Son, Jesus to this earth…But…I dont think I believe that she was a God…in the same way the holy trinity is…

and I really dont believe that we are all Gods that sinned in heaven so we were sent to earth…

Theres gotta be some solid scripture to argue these points…I should call catholicanswers…

I don’t think I’m arguing for a “Heavenly Mother”…I was making an observation of similar beliefs between the two faith traditions I listed above. Nor was I disputing the belief in the trinity…can you cite a quote from me indicating that I was? I have no quarrel with your belief system nor your Christology. I did not intend my comments on the subject to produce an issue of contention. I agree…you should call catholicanswers…

As far as Friends believing God is also “Mother”…I’m sure there are some Friends who are comfortable with that imagery. God is sometimes given feminine qualities in scripture and “male and female” are both made in the image of God. The Holy Spirit is a “feminine” noun as is “Sophia” the “Wisdom of God” and in Proverbs the Wisdom of God is spoken of in distinctly feminine terms. I address God as “Father”…for me that settles the question.

Peace to you.

omigosh I’m sorry if you took that the wrong way…theres no contention where whatsoever…I just, didnt know, really what you were saying…or where you were coming from, you know what I mean? No contention or anything like that …

I’m not saying, ok, I would never say anyone is WRONG I guess for believing what they believe…everyones entitled to their beliefs…so…I hope I dont sound judgemental by saying that I want to be able to support MY beliefs with scripture…I’ve just never heard of a ‘God the Mother’ as in a separate entity…and…never heard of this guy supposedly being the ‘second coming of jesus’ etc…so…

LOL i will call…it’d probably be easier…thnx for trying to give me some insight tho
