100 years ago today, the Great War broke out in Europe, shaking the world and society at its very foundations, causing millions of deaths and untold horrors. Let us pray for all those who gave their lives for King and country, beloved, peace, justice and honour that their sons and daughters might live in a peaceful world. Let us pray also for all innocent victims, politicians striving for a solution and Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary, whose assassination brought about this tragedy.

:signofcross: O God, Thou King of peace and justice, look with pity and sorrow upon Your creatures who have failed so often in their history to live in peace and harmony. We are often frail and fail to forsee the consequences of our actions. Our incapability led the human race into the great calamity of World War I, which took its toll on tens of millions of people. Yet, among them there were many brave men, who gave their lives for their friends and showed the love most exemplary which Thy Son taught us about. We plead with You and Your most merciful and loving Heart to grant those brave men and innocent victims the peace they so dearly desired — and which your Vicar Pope Benedict XV sought to preserve — in the arms of Your Blessed Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, through Whom we pray. Preserve, O God, our world from war of this magnitude until Your Kingdom comes in its glory, when You will wipe away our tears and reign in majesty into all eternity.

Regina pacis, ora pro nobis!
Sancte Benedicte, ora pro nobis!
Sancta Birgitta, ora pro nobis!
Sancta Catharina, ora pro nobis!
Beate Carolus, ora pro nobis!
Omnes patroni Europæ, orate pro nobis! :signofcross:

Amen!

O God, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do proceed; give unto thy servants that peace which the world cannot give, that both, our hearts may be set to obey thy commandments, and also that, by thee, we being defended from the fear of our enemies, may pass our time in rest and quietness; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

God grant to the living, grace; to the departed, rest; to the Church, the Queen, the Commonwealth, and all mankind, peace and concord; and to us and all his servants, life everlasting. Amen.

I’m confused - Benedict is no longer the pope…what, in this context, did he seek to preserve especially?

Praying to Our Lady Queen of Peace for world peace. Praying for the repose of the souls of all who died in WW I.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Praying for all those who lost their lives and for all those who were affected by World War I.

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!
