im sorry i must be some freak of nature teenager who actually has an attention span at religous ed classes, so that when my teachers say something, i want reasons.
I go one night a week for an hour, from august to may, and this year the entire theme was Last Things. Heaven, Hell, Judgement. We went into a whole lot of depth, including almost a whole month on Satan. And yet most of my class agreed that it was one of the most interesting years, and most educational, they have had in religious ed.
WOW! You are so blessed to be in a Youth Group like that! I am so jealous

My youth group has a leader who knows less than nothing about the Church. She refuses to let me and my sisters help her, even though we know so much more about our faith than she does. She prefers to allow the kids to do what they want. Usually that means girls sitting on boys laps in mini-mini skirts and skits that say it is OK to skip mass on Sundays. After two years of trying to make a difference we gave up and decided to wait until after college. Adults don’t like to listen to teens, no matter if the teen knows more or not. So I will wait until I am officially considered an adult before I try again.
I agree that people want the explanations, but first you need to know something before you need the explanation. First you need to know that the Eucharist is the body and blood of Our Lord, before the teacher/leader can explain why we believe this. The BC introduces the faith, and the CCC explains it.
Freshman88,
Did you go to WYD?
I agree about the Teen masses, they are disgusting and revolting. If my family accidentally walks into a teen mass we walk right back out. It is just wrong. Have you read that like 75% of the people asking for the TLM are the youth (meaning 16-29 year old)? We are empty because of this trash that the musicians and some of the priests allow–no push into the mass. I am so sick of hearing the protestant hymns, the wishy-washy sermons, and seeing all the abuses around the altar. I totally agree with you. But as you found out, the Church is greater than a few bad priests and many bad musicians.

Maybe that will give you some hope.
If you did go to WYD, even if your friends did not, weren’t you impressed by the number of conservative priests and nuns? Weren’t you impressed by the number of people? Weren’t you impressed period? I was. I am one of the most conservative 18 year olds that I know, and I was immensely impressed by WYD. I think it would be hard not to be impressed, unless you are a close minded conservative, like my friend was, or really-really liberal.
I am so happy about your return to the faith. Keep it up, keep up the good fight.
