I will be attending World Youth Day next July in Krakow Poland with a nearby parish. I am getting excited and we are fundraising now. I was wondering if anyone is going or knows anyone who is. I am also wondering what to expect from it and any feedback from anyone who has gone in the past. We will be going to Rome and Assisi before Krakow.

Not going now. Overage.

But have been three times (Toronto, Cologne, and Sydney).

Prepare well, as this will be two of the most intense weeks of your life!

You’ll experience the Church and the faith like never before.

I’ve never been, but from what I’ve heard from those who have gone, it is important to understand the difference between a pilgrimage and a vacation. WYD is the former, not the latter.

That’s awesome that you get to go!

I heard that during the World Youth Day in Krakow, lack of beds… They are already occupied 50 miles from Krakow and there is some problem with bus transport. If you have everything taken care of , I wish you deep experience faith. After WYD I recommend visit in Auschwitz-Birkenau not so far from Krakow, this is so sad history.

That’s true, but authorities do all to guaranteed accomodation ex. the Cracow primary school, junior high school, secondary school and even dorms there’ll be the place to tourist stay. The authorities of Cracow university and polytechnics on the time of WYD pleased to leave the dorms for student.

That’ll be also the problem with public transport, of course public transport in Cracow is one of the best in Europe, the modern light rails (trams) and buses but there’ll be so lot of pilgrims that public transport not enough, so the main mode of transport it that days’ll be travel on foot. The cities closes the main roads to make a possibility reaching a WYD place by foot. I think that before the cities’ ll be organised a car park. I’ll be sure that in WYD’ll be the long all days trafic jams on the highways and city’s ringroads.

Sad is that polish catholic church, do a business on WYD overstating a prices of food and accomodations in package. They get from the cities authorities for free the accomodations rooms in the public institution, they get from polish government money for organisation, they get for free permission for do this event on public ground, the cities organised free public transport in that day for all tourists and I do not know why this package is so expensive. Normally in Poland for example in hostel the accomodation room costs 35 zl, and the 2 dish dinner costs 14 zl, and super maybe 10 zl. Package are overvaluaded.

And Polish people lend the flat for free parishes. I do not like if anyone do business on faith. If you have any questions about Poland and Cracow ask.
