Your wife is so lucky to have you worried about her! God bless you for that!

Yes, I would say you wife is suffering from PPD. Her OB should be able to take care of her, so I would heed the advice.

The only thing my hubby did for me, which really helped, was draw me a bubble bath, light candles around, and get me a glass of wine and say “go cry in there”…it actually helped but didnt’ cure.

Show her love like you have never shown before!

Good luck!

Like you need another post telling you to get your wife to the Doctors office, but here it goes. Get her there TODAY, not next week ect. Make sure they check thyroid levels mine quit working durink pregnancy number three. Two really is more work than one because they can lap you. One is awake crying other is sleeping resting up for their turn meanwhile you are trying to keep pace with both. Personally if you can manage it I would recommend a mommie day off. Set it up so if she is breastfeeding that is all she has to do with the kids for one day. Let her sleep in untill she wakes up, take as long of a shower as she desires take a trip to the doctors office, then if possible a massage and a trip to the store to by one outfit that doesn’t scream I just had a baby. Just my two cents.

Well, it all turned out O.K. Both I and my mother-in-law spoke to her, and she spoke to her doctor. It appears to be only anxiety about my mother-in-law leaving, and wondering how she will do with the 2 children alone for the first time.

So far so good, even though the newborn seems colicky.

Thanks everyone!

Good news, I totally understand her anxiety…I have a 4 1/2 yo, and 14 month old and probably will deliver on Friday if not before…so I am already “anxious” as to how I will be able to handle everything…

Just continue to keep a close eye on her. Make sure she gets enough “me” time, if it’s just a bubble bath alone for about 30 minutes after mom leaves and a book to read while in there.

One thing that can help her anxiety…make sure she knows exactly when to expect you to come home everyday from work. ( I am assuming that you work outside of the home, etc.) I have a hubby that is a workaholic and I never know when he’s coming home after a long day…it’s really frustrating…so that’s my advice.

My mom stays with me for about 2 weeks after my deliveries…Thank God for Moms!

My mom passed away. My mother in law is staying with us now. She has a close relationshiup with her.

And frankly, my mother was the typical Italian mom – she would have walked up shouted “SNAP OUT OF IT!” and figured that was enough, so I would not have raised it with her.
My evil side is shining through when I say this, but my depression left me when my mom left. For me, my mom wanted to control everything, it was no longer my house and my kids were no longer strictly in my control either. So as soon as my mom left, I was able to take my household back and I started feeling better right away. I’m not saying that is the case with your lovely wife, since she has a close relationship with her mom, but it was definately the point in mine. I, too, have a close relationship, but we do things differently, which placed a strain on her staying with me.

Either way, seeking professional help is alway appropriate. Even if you are wrong about where she is coming from right now, she will not doubt how much you love her for all of your concern. Many blessings.
