Hello. Well I found out today from my younger brother’s best friend that my brother is having sex. My brother is 23 and has been dating a girl for 8 months now. My brothers best friend said they started having sex after 3 months of dating. This best friend of my brother would not lie about something like this. He and I are good friends also. My mom and dad would never ever believe this. If I was to tell them, I think that would totally break their heart. So do I let them know what is going on or just let it go? My mom has always told me to tell her what is going on with my brother’s life. He lives out of town one hour away and rarely comes home. I really do not know what to do. Thanks for reading. I appreciate it.

Your brother is over 18. You should most definitely NOT tell your parents.

You should talk to him. Remind him that sex is for a husband and wife to enjoy not to be shared outside of marriage.

I would keep your parents out of it. It will completely ruin the relationship you have with your brother, and honestly I don’t think it is your parents’ business now that he is an adult.

I agree with the PP that your parents do not need to know what their adult son is doing. If you are concerned about him, you should approach him. Since you are both friends with the same person, I’m assuming you are pretty close yourselves? Would he listen to what you have to say?

Remind him what the Church teaches and pray for him.

No, you should NOT tell your 'rents! I’m 19, four years younger than your brother, and I’d HIGHLY resent it if someone snitched to my parents about my personal life! Don’t do it! You could lose your relationship with him and NOT be able to be an example!

My little sister is Catholic but doesn’t always follow the Church. She knows what the Church teaches, so I just pray for her and try to be a loving example to her.

I am the mom of 2 “men” ages 21 and 19. While my sons and I do talk about this sort of thing, and I do remind them of church teaching and why, I wouldn’t want someone to tell me if they weren’t going to tell me themselves. I will tell you why… first, it is gossip and second, what can I do about it more than I already have? I do talk to them but they have to learn to make their own choices and mistakes and learn from them. I don’t want a son that can’t make his own mind up… or one that thinks that I will shelter him from consequences of bad decisions…

Just my :twocents:
