Yes but some I’ve seen over the years abuse these “gifts”. We had a woman at the COG I had mentioned and boy she was all over the aisles, talking in tongues, etc yet when it came to me, she was always a smart alec and would say things around people to belittle me. I’ll admit I went with her cousin to a bar and I was underage. Wasn’t drinking, I couldn’t, but yet her cousin told her I was there and then, bam, it was smart comments to me at church from then on.That attitude was left behind a while ago. AG, PHC, etc. are all the same.
Sedate is a nice way to say it. Some would say “DEAD.” And I’m not beating up on the COG. I’m referring to Pentecostal churches generally. As my aunt once said, “All the Pentecostal churches are weak. The Church of God----weak. The PCG----weak. The Pentecostal Holiness—weak!.”** And it’s not about worship style, but Pentecostals have forgotten about the spiritual gifts. **What point is there to being Pentecostal if all you want to be is Baptist but with better music?
Oh yes. I don’t like churches that turn the sound system volume up just for the sake of it. My pastor likes to hear himself scream, and it gets on my nerves.
This was 1993 and at 18, I was pretty much done with this church but I still came on occasion. Her husband was the youth pastor and a GREAT, GREAT man and he and I were talking one night when his wife chimed in something about a “keg party”. Her husband and I continued to talk even though our looks to each other acknowledged the 800 lb gorilla in the room. I’m sure he was thinking about how to keep me in church and her mouth wasn’t helping all while I was thinking “you see why I hate this place?!”
sorry to be long winded, but a lot of “spiritually gifted” people are the same sinners that, ultimately, we all are.
