As Catholics, when we attend mass, we are in the very presence of Christ, body, blood, soul, and divinity.

When you are confronted by Christ himself, are you going to dance and sing and praise, or will you be awed into silence and worship? Would you not fall at his feet in tears, in joy, but in such silence so as not to miss a word he says?

This is what we experience. It is not necessarily solomn, but it is very worshipful, very deep, very spiritual, very respectful, and at heart, very much a direct contemplative connection directly to God.

I have recently become involved with the Charismatic group in my parish, and they are all about singing and praising the Lord…outside of mass. He is present in our prayers just as he is present in Protestant worship, but the style doesn’t really merit the respect required in his physical presence.

We Catholics love the Lord, so much that we have forced ourselves to maintain the sacred silence in our sanctuaries in order to hear the Word and experience Jesus Christ as he literally asked us to do in John 6. But this does not mean we don’t praise him loudly and with much joy in every other venue of our lives.

Look at surrounding parishes…you might have one that has just what you’re looking for. At a parish a few towns over from us they have a “Festival of Praise” once a month. It is awesome - lots & lots of singing, hand clapping, raising of hands in praise - prayers etc. It’s held in the evening on a week night. The first time we went my husband and I kept saying to each other, “Are you sure this is a CATHOLIC Church!!!” Come to find out that all kinds of Protestants go for the once a month worship. It’s really awesome!

Genesis315:
I know David danced before the Lord (2 Sam. 6:14). Hope that helps.:dancing:

As far as I know, however, no one danced at the Last Supper, on Calvary, or in the temple when the sacrafice was offered up, which is why we traditionally don’t during the Mass.👍
Agreed

Some Catholic churches offer charismatic masses, you might like that

The Mass is centered on the Eucharist - and reverence is called for. I like to think of the Mass as one long prayer.

As a Protestant, we clap, sing and sometimes dance in our service. We enjoy the presence of the Lord. Is there anytime in which Catholics dance and sing and just fully let loose unto the Lord? I know that the mass is a respectful and quiet service, what’s outside of a typical mass? As a person thinking of converting, this is the only thing I have not seen in the Catholic church that I’d miss in the Protestant church. Thank you for any information
I know what you’re talking about, having come from a protestant church myself. No, it’s not in the Mass, and you may have to look a bit to find it, but it’s not unreachable in the Catholic Church. For example, just up the freeway from me in Houston is the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Center. I’ve never been myself, but I’m told they have the very same types of worship events you describe.

So it’s definitely out there, you just have to look for it.:yup:
