If you’ve knelt over your bed to pray and there was a dresser in front of you while you were praying to God, because there is a dresser in front of you, does this mean that you were worshipping the dresser?

My prediction is that someone is going to say it’s not the same thing.

I was actually gonna say:

Nani yuten nen? Aho!

And then, in spirit at least, smack 2nd Gen with a paper fan.
Luke 9
49And John answered and said, **Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. **
50And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

The dresser isn’t being used at all in the worship of God while the numerous icons used by your church are used in a religous context during your worship so no, it isn’t the same thing.

Childish question. Oh well.

Anyways if one crowns or adorns these objects in any way, you might say these things are being worshipped.

First, let me say that I know you aren’t worshipping a statue or whatever the icon happens to be. But, taking 2ndG’s OP at face value, do you not see a difference between having a dresser in front of you when you pray and using an icon when you pray?

No, it’s obvious to an observer you’re worshiping the bed. As a fellow bed worshiper, I not only kneel beside it but often think of it with affection during the day. I look forward to my nightly contact with it. And I hope, someday, to rest in peace. There are more of us out here than you may suspect, especially new mothers.

I do adorn my dresser. But that doesn’t take away from my being a bedworshiper. My bed and dresser are a set. They are one with the chest of drawers. But I’m closer to my bed.

Of course, an icon helps us to focus our imagination on God. A dresser is no help at all in that respect.

Some people kiss photos of their loved ones when they are away, thereby substituting images for persons. Not quite idolatry, but the same principle…
