Honestly, unless you’re a completist, don’t bother. If you do, I recommend the following:I want to watch End of Evangelion at some point, but I haven’t made it past the first five minutes.

)I’m gonna be a dissenting voice here and say that while I never hated NGE, I thought it was grossly overrated. I saw a couple of episodes and in its obtuse philosophy mixed with screwball comedy and really over-the-top religious references, all I could think was “and this is the face that launched a thousand fandoms?” It just struck me as being overly obtuse and impenetrable. And after reading about later episodes, which struck me as progressively going towards Hideaki Anno’s breakdown depicted onscreen mixed with shoestring budget thrown in for flavor, it became “what’s the point?” Of Gainax’ work, I’d prefer Gunbuster (though with the pervasive nudity, I cannot recommend it any more, even with its good qualities).Lots of people LIKED Neon Genesis Evangelion. At least it was more understandable than An Angels’ Egg, which, while drop-dead gorgeous, is so layered with obscure meaning that even the film’s own writer and director, Mamoru Oishii, finally threw up his hands in defeat when trying to articulate what he was saying in it.
If the writer/director can’t even figure it out, what hope for the rest of us?? LOLFWIW, I’ve found a lot of shows that have awesome music that I can’t stand, whether it’s an issue of quality or morals or whatever. My iPod has several of these songs, thanks to iTunes and my willingness to import (Astarotte’s Toy, Evangelion, Dragon Crisis, Revolutionary Girl Utena, We Don’t Have Wings, etc.).Awesome opening and closing themes, though.
