I’ve been applying to jobs like crazy lately, with the money situation in the family getting tight. I’m college-age but not in college, a white female. And I’m getting the feeling that this is likely one of the worst places to be in order to get a job. (Or maybe I’m just too picky? Of course, I’m applying for warehouse and janitor jobs, it’s not like I’m reaching for the stars or anything)
Anyway, this morning I actually got a response to one of my job applications. “You live too far away from the job.” Are you serious? Would I have applied to a job that was too far away? It was less than an hour’s commute, and with gas under two dollars and a car that gets thirty mpg, it’s hardly unacceptable. I can’t help but wonder if that was there cover-up response to not wanting to hire a girl for a warehouse job. Kind of makes me wish I hadn’t deleted the email.
But I digress. Has anyone else had an absolutely rediculous reason presented to them in a rejection letter? Or were you ever fired for a totally stupid reason? A friend of mine who works as a janitor was nearly fired for singing while he works. Well away from anyone who’s working.
