I actually wouldnât mind that one⌠at least the one without the extra versesThey played, In Heaven there is no Beer Polka
Can you imagine it?And did you know that you can do the Macarena to the Imperial Death March from Star Wars?![]()
I like that one. Iâve also heard âToo Fat Polkaâ at weddings. That the one with the lyrics âI donât want her. You can have her. Sheâs too fat for me.â
No upstanding mid-west wedding would be complete without the polka.I like that one. Iâve also heard âToo Fat Polkaâ at weddings. That the one with the lyrics âI donât want her. You can have her. Sheâs too fat for me.â
Also, if it is a Polish wedding, the money dance must be included. Thatâs where the men pay a dollar, drink a shot and dance with the bride. Itâs a staple of all Polish weddings Iâve been to.No upstanding mid-west wedding would be complete without the polka.
Italian weddings, too. At least in the midwest. Also, if it is a Polish wedding, the money dance must be included. Thatâs where the men pay a dollar, drink a shot and dance with the bride. Itâs a staple of all Polish weddings Iâve been to.

âŚuhh, every cajun wedding (including mine!lol!) has that tradition too!![]()
Aaaand Mexican weddings⌠only the drink is optional and the women line up to dance with the groom and sometimes⌠the women dance with the bride and the men dance with the groom⌠and like I said, the drink is optional although you probably couldnât tell.Italian weddings, too. At least in the midwest.
We had the dollar dance too, and my husbandâs 85 year old Irish grandma had never heard of this and was appalled . . .Also, if it is a Polish wedding, the money dance must be included. Truth be told, my wife and I played it at my sisterâs wedding.(If I hear âOn Eagleâs Wingsâ at 1 more ceremonyâŚ)
Well, if I had designed ours with just the music I liked, no one would be dancing at all! Mainly because most of the songs I like are over 10 minutes long. Just try and dance to Genesisâ âSupperâs Readyâ sometime and youâll see what I mean!Yeah, theyâre way overdone, but theyâre oh-so-fun to dance to! And, hey, itâs much better than at another nephewâs wedding where the DJ played all hard rock â not one slow dance, no classics, nothing. The only people dancing were the bridal party. The couplesâ parents didnât even dance after the traditional daddy-daughter dance.
I would not permit it at my fatherâs funeral. I picked the music and the Scripture readings personally to avoid any of that. No Haugen, Haas or Joncas.Truth be told, my wife and I played it at my sisterâs wedding.
And as I posted elsewhere, even David Haas joked that Michael Joncas just wanted a song that began with âyoo-hoo.â![]()
Our first dance was the theme from âThe Godfather,â which is really titled âSpeak Softly Love.â My dear Italian-American husband is one of the loudest people I know. Actually, we picked the song because âThe Godfatherâ was one of the first movies we saw when we were dating, and hubby had recently been godfather for the first time, to his older niece.Nothing says an âItalian-Americanâ wedding like the Godfather Waltz.
