How can God love me even after I do such terrible things? I feel so worthless in His eyes. I know that He loves me, and I don’t doubt that, but why does he love me? I mean, I don’t see any reason to. If I am such a terrible person why does He love me or even forgive me for the things I’ve done? No matter how good of a person I try to be I always fail. I feel like God would never accept me because of all the huge mistakes I’ve made.

God loves you irrespective of your worth.

Jesus death on the cross is proof of his love.

To ask how or why God can love us sinners is to limit God as though He were fickle or capricious as we often are. We often withhold our love if it is not reciprocated, but God is not like that. God loves us without measure, unconditionally. And we all fall short of returning that love. Christ came for sinners, and the Church is a hospital for sinners - remember that!

Romans 5:8 really shows God’s love for us:

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

The most important thing for you to do is not to give up hope. We all fall and struggle with various temptations. When you fail, repent, seek forgiveness, and go to confession. Attend mass as regularly as you can; receiving communion can have a tremendous supportive impact on you (It’s definitely important in my life). Also, try to find a good spiritual adviser (A priest you can talk to and who can help you grow in faith). Hope this helps.

I’ve thought this as well. Then I think of my children. No matter what they do, know matter how badly they misbehave, I will always love them. Always. Even if they disappoint me, my love for them have never wavered. God’s love is like this, only magnified.

its hard to forgive yourself isn’t it. learning to accept and love yourself unconditionally is very difficult. we all have sinned, over and over. some more serious than others but sin nonetheless.

but I truly believe that we have to forgive ourselves. to love ourselves in all our shame and sin as the good Lord does for us.

to do less is to dishonor Jesus and His sacrifice.

I’m convinced that we are challenged in this life to overcome such adversary, so the good Lord will be proud of us and our improvements, to gain a deeper understanding of the love Our Father has for us.

So please forgive yourself. Say aloud to yourself “I forgive myself” Love yourself as the Good Lord loves you. Open yourself to the Holy Spirit for strength and guidance, thru Him, all things are possible.

God has an incredible capacity to love. I don´t believe any of us are “worthless”. I believe we are all created with GREAT value. God doesn’t make junk.

There was one account of St. Faustina where I heard that Jesus told her it hurt him more that she refused to believe she had been forgiven after confession than the sin she had confessed!

I guess God loves us more unconditionally, because we are his children.

I feel like this, often. Intellectually, i can accept that God loves me and forgives me, but I often don’t “feel” it. For me, there is nothing quite like finding some quiet time with the Eucharist, and contemplating Him, His love for me, His suffering, His life, and His Blessed Mother. When I contemplate these things while being in His physical presence, He always gives me something–usually just the peace of knowing that He is there. And knowing that He is there is all that I really need because it means that He loves me.

He doesn’t need to be there. The only reason that He is there is to be with you, because He loves you.

Something else that helps me–anywhere–is to recall the story of the prodigal son. Father John Riccardo has given a couple of great talks on the prodigal son, and he made the parable even richer for me. To think of God as the father, searching the horizon–always–awaiting the moment that we return to Him, makes my heart melt.

Don’t try and work out why God loves you; just know that He does love you. Even if Our Lord were to shed one drop of His Precious Blood for you, that would be proof of His infinite love. But as we know, He did so much more than this!

God’s love makes us good. Any goodness we possess; anything lovable within us, is a gift from God. His love is pure. That is the way God is.

Isn’t it the great mystery, how God is capable of such love?

Whenever I feel worthless, it’s always tempting to try and turn away from Christ so that I can clean myself up, so to speak. It’s a natural desire of love to want to be perfect, but never, never, never let Satan twist that so that you step away. Let Christ wash your feet clean. If it helps, I meditated a lot on Mary Magdalene during the Passion–as sinful as she was, being human, she still dared to be at the foot of the Cross as Christ died and received the gift He wished to pour out on her, even though she wasn’t “worthy”. You’ll never be “worthy”; you are loved, and that’s enough.

Also, this quote from St. Therese: “Oh, how happy I am to see myself imperfect and to have such need of God’s mercy at the moment of my death.”

Because He knows who you truly are, not just what you’ve done but what you are capable of. He knows not just your conduct, but your potential. He does not make mistakes-

He loves us enough to allow us choices, even when our choice is not Him. Remember, He assured us that the heavens celebrate a sinner repenting and choosing God. Choose Him now, and He and the host of heavens will rejoice.

He made you. He knows who you really are-far better than you do.
