Would angels participate on the CA forums?

We have plenty of stories down through the tradition that angels can interact with us here on Earth, so why not here on the CA Forums?

The really interesting question then becomes: how would/could you tell? How might electronic dialogue with an angel look different than with regular people? Can angels lie, deceive, or dissimulate?

😃

My guess is that they have an entirely different interest, and our communications amongst ourselves wouldn’t even register with them.

But the tradition shows they ARE involved/interested in our affairs, does it not?

Isn’t our guardian angels’ whole job being involved/interested in our affairs?

In the Book of Tobit God sent the archangel Raphael to help and protect Tobias. He came as a human being and nobody thought otherwise.
Yes, angels are interested in the affairs of men.

What makes you think they aren’t already participating here?😉 (I definitely think there are some demons lurking here.)

I doubt that angels would participate in forums. Our Guardian angels are specific to us, and their advice is a gentle prodding, not a lecture or a speech on good behavior.
Angels do not have bodies. Similarly, they do not possess computers.

It is an interesting thought but I’ll vote: no.

Only if they were from Los Angeles:)

Otherwise…no hands.

IMNAAHO.

ICXC NIKA

There are probably more effective ways for them to work for our salvation.

Note to higher ups: Christine77 is on to us. Recommend intervention before we are exposed.:p:p:p

But on a serious note, I don’t see why there couldn’t be angels here. I think they would be right most of the time.

Yes.

I wonder if it felt different to Tobit to be around Raphael before he knew.

:hmmm:

I’d be surprised if they were. God usually leaves us to make our own decisions, but sometimes guides us more directly. But angels turning up visually is a rare event in my experience or understanding of the Christian faith.

If they were online, their language would give them away. It would reek of heaven in a way we couldn’t emulate.

It reminds me of CS Lewis’ comment about his book “The Screwtape Letters”, where an arch-demon Screwtape was giving advice to Wormwood, a tempter on temptation duty.

Lewis said that to be fair, there should really be a book from an Archangel to a guardian angel, but as he commented, “Who could write it?”

In my opinion, Tobit is a Jewish yarn, which came out of the Babylonian captivity, like a lot of the other Old Testament canon. It’s not a literal story, any more than Jonah is a literal story.

For those of you arguing angels don’t have bodies/hands - how were they in danger of being molested, then, such that Lot had to offer his daughters instead? Similarly, how could there be giants born of angels and women in the time before the flood?

Did the seraph not speak to St. Francis on Mt. Laverna? Why capable of speaking but not typing?

Did Michael not need hands to hold the flaming sword at the gates of Eden?

Etc.

Hi Neoplatonist,

I think that you bring up an interesting question. 🙂

I personally think if anything, that the angels might inspire us to write something, rather than actually write something here themselves.

That’s just my own personal opinion, though.

The reason that I say this, is that I will have prayed to my own guardian angel for help, and then I will feel inspired to do something as a result of that prayer, for example.

If we allow that thinking on a topic enough to pray might spark new/further ideas on the topic, what would give you any reason to think it was the prompting of an angel instead? Have they been light years ahead of things you would have thought of? Was there some luminous quality or uncommon clarity to the ideas? What?

Atheists get plenty of idea sparks without praying . . .

It’s usually a pretty fast response, and it is something that I would not have thought of, myself. It was not an out-of-the-ordinary idea–or anything like that–but it is just that I don’t have the ability to usually respond or to think that quickly. That is the best way that I can describe it. 🙂

Interesting. The strangeness of the experience obviously stands out, and that’s awesome.

ACK! You caught me! 🙂

I can’t say if angels are here, but I will say that all you good Catholics have had a positive influence on me and have helped my faith formation.

So while the question of angels is up for debate, from what I see, there certainly are saintly people here at CAF.
