Earlier today my Mother came in my room and asked me if i think that Jesus was born on December 25th and i said yeah and she said no he was not apparently she told me she watched a video of a Jewish Rabbi saying that Jesus was not born on December 25th and she said something like that Christmas is a pagan holiday and that he was born in the spring and now she got my sister on this because my sister is telling me that Jesus is real birthday is around March and that in the bible it says no to Christmas trees now i have been reading the bible i am currently reading Gospel of Luke and i don’t remember reading something like that unless i over read something and they even said we should not be putting the nativity under a Christmas tree no star or angel and my Mom even said that the only people who can interpret the bible is Jewish Rabbi now i feel like they are wrong on this but i don’t know how to respond to some of their claims and what they are saying i just wanted to see if i can get any help some clarification on if they are right or not but i feel like they are wrong . **_

And just FYI nobody knows the actual date of Jesus’ birth and it doesn’t actually matter, because we know He was born. It’s the commemoration, rather than the actual date that matters
 
Try using punctuation next time. You’d get more responses that way. You can’t expect people to have the patience to read unpunctuated stuff like that.

Anyway, I was having a discussion with a Muslim friend about this, and I told him I honestly don’t care if Jesus wasn’t born on 25 December. It is the date I celebrate his birth, whether he was born on it or not.
 
Your mother is a Catholic and she accepts teachings on Christ from non-Christians? Pray for her!

  1. Jesus was born when the fields were green, which was anytime between November and April. That was the rainy season in Israel. No one knows the exact day, and it doesn’t matter. We choose to celebrate it on the 25th of December.
  2. The bible does not say “no” to Christmas trees. Christmas trees weren’t a thing then.
  3. The nativity scene was invented by St. Francis, a holier man you’ll not find anywhere.
  4. Rabbis are not going to interpret the New Testament for us, nor should they.
  5. Your mother sounds like she is being influenced by Jehovah’s Witnesses. Is that what is going on?
 
I am thinking so because she watches a lot of things on You Tube and when she tells me these things it does not sound like it’s coming from a Catholic perspective .
 
No kidding. She needs to quit watching that poison. Unfortunately, poison is addictive. You’ll just have to educate her. Steer her to some better apologetics videos.
 
It sounds like you are growing up in a household where not everyone believes the same things. This doesn’t have to be difficult, but it certainly is when one is constantly being challenged.

I am sorry you are going through this. I would suggest you do your own research and come to your own conclusions. The good thing about the Catholic faith is that it isn’t hard to learn about, and if you are using good sources the information is consistent.

I know it is tempting to try to convince your mom and sister they are wrong and you are right. Truthfully, good rarely comes from doing that. Spend your energies in strengthening your faith and memorize some phrases to use when they try to get you “going”. “That is an interesting viewpoint” is always a good response.

Jesus was born on December 25. Mary would not have forgotten what day he was born, and neither would the apostles. Augustine mentions celebrating “the day” so it is obvious that it has always been December 25 (or whatever corresponding date according to the calender in use)
