Would doing this be considered a sin?

Would letting someone lie to a school about why you are absent a sin? Like you stay at home one day due to a belief that school is not in session on that day but it turns out to be in session. So the person tells the school you are ill. Would this be a mortal sin of lying?

So, you miss school because you believe there is no school that day, but in fact there is, then you lie about it (For what? To not have the day counted as an unexcused absence?)

That would be a venial sin; To be a mortal sin it would have to be a grave matter, like: Lying to get excused from school and… Sending an innocent man to jail!

Lying is always a sin. As to if it’s mortal? that’s between them and God. Why is there a need for a lie? Why not simply tell the truth, or pack up in the car and go to school once it is found out it’s in session?

I don’t think lying is always a sin.Think of terrorist countries or people torturing you to reveal where your children are so they can do evil to them and you lie to them .is that a sin? I don’t think so. What about undercover police who use disguises and misinformation to get to child abducters / human trafficers /drug lords is that a sin I don’t think so.Do you think the spies sent into Nazi Germany to save people were sinning because they didn’t call a head and tell Hitler they were on their way I think they were using the virtue of courage and the intelligence God gave them to put an end to evil

Well, it’s a venial sin. Not a mortal sin. Just try to avoid doing something like this.

This reminds me of skipping out a class because my college delayed opening by 2-3 hours but my philosophy professor still came and held morning class. Good thing, he doesn’t expect us to lie about missing class.

If a Nazi came to my door and asked me if I was hiding someone and I was, I would deceive the Nazi in order to protect everyone living in my home. I couldn’t imagine myself doing otherwise. But we have to be cautious here or else, we fall victim to excuses such as ‘oh, it’s not a sin because my intention is that end result will be xxxx’.
