Would I Be Misrepresenting Myself? (Dress at Church vs. daily)

If I dress according to the modest guidelines that I have been reading, I feel like I would almost be lying. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t wear short skirts, skimpy tops, or anything like like that. I usually wear tank tops or spaghetti straps (not for Church), which is definitely not considered modest dress. Ideas for feeling less conflicted? Perhaps ideas concerning modest dress that doesn’t seem as different as my regular dress?

Almost everyone should dress differently for Sunday mass. Unless you’re a professional who has to wear a suit every day, your Sunday outfit should be more formal than your everyday wear. It’s not a misrepresentation at all. It’s just a sign of respect for the solemnity of the occasion.

Unfortunately, too many people today don’t give as much thought to their dress as you do.

Lost Lamb. This is good that you are thinking about this. Sundays are set apart for a special reason. You have been invited to the most wonderous event that you will ever be invited to . The Mass! The King of Kings will be there! He invited you. I think you know you should respect that .

Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 talks about “All things have their season. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.” and it goes on for many more verses in like manner.

Just because you dress differently when you go to Church does not make you a hypocrite. Just because you act differently when you go to Church does not make you a hypocrite. We pray when we are in Church.

Though prayer is good, there is a time and a place for it. We can pray all of our waking hours, but the mind would go insane. It is not humanly possible to pray all of the time since the body demands certain nourishments (food, drink, sleep). Neither does God ask or expect us to pray all of the time. What is possible, however, is to have subtle thoughts here and there throughout our daily lives that reminds us of Jesus’ cross or some other worthy thought as well as maybe a few hours set aside for prayer.

Yes, i would recommend more modest dress outside of Church in this case. While we are expected to dress quite modestly while in Church, we are expected to dress at least somewhat appropriately in the normal world. There is a rock bottom that we shouldn’t go past concerning dress even in normal life. In my example of prayer, immodesty in dress would be equivalent to not praying at all outside of Mass when in reality you should dress somewhat modestly but not necessarily as modest as in Church, but you’re welcome to if you wish and you should take at least some time out from ordinary life to pray.

If you are dressing out of societal or peer pressure or trying to be considered “sexy” or attractive or just trying to fit in, i would suggest that you stop!. You are a beautiful and intelligent woman, who should not be falling for the lies of our society that hurt women.

As a man, i know that a woman is the most perfect creation that God has ever made!

Loving, caring and self-sacrificing, women are a real inspiration for all of us lowly, selfish men.

You do not need to compromise your integrity and your comfort level by feeling that you should wear revealing clothes to “attract” a man. If a man cannot see your beauty, the image of God Himself, then that man is truly not worthy of your love.

Oh, goodness! I suppose I should clarify that. I always cover my middle, as much of my thigh as possible, etc. (it is IMPOSSIBLE to find long shorts in So Cal!). I have a husband and two kids. Definitely just dressing for comfort.

Dress in a way that will bring out the beauty that is in you. You are made in the image of God, and believe me, you are beautiful. More often than not that dress may be different than what the fashion exeperts will tell you. What is in you is unseen. What is seen and heard is what you show and what you speak. Therefore what you show on the outside that people can see and hear will reflect on what is inside of you. Sound biblical? Oh, yes it is.

Hey, what I am saying is - dress according to your conscience. But the advice from earlier posters are all very apt. I just want to make light of all this. Have a nice day.

Shorts? You can get skirts anywhere…the internet is a vast market place. I don’t know your age or shape but most department stores, boutiques, etc have online shopping. Also California has lots of ethnic shops. Pretty gypsy skirts with pretty tops are usually available those places. Then there is EBAY.

I guess I need to clarify my clarification! lol I meant that is what I wear normally, not to Church.

I’d love to shop online, but I can’t. There is so much of a size difference between my hips and my waist that I can only wear a few select things. I can’t wait until I lose some weight. It will come off of my hips and I’ll be able to wear so much more!
