I have a question because it is bothering me. I need a software which costs me around $150 if I buy from a local store; however, I asked a friend of mine who is working for a school to buy the software from his company for only $30. He says he can buy that for me.

I don’t have much money therefore, this sounds great, but I am not sure if this is pleasing to God?

I am going to meet him today, but if I know it is wrong to ask him buy the software for me, I would change my mind and not to ask him buy it.

You friend’s company must be a distributor, therefore, he may receive wholesale price on the software. I would buy it.

Pleasing to God…well, I would say it’s good to have friends in the right places and God put him there…:rolleyes:
Now…if it’s a pirate copy, that is stealing. So…🤷 you know what to do there.
 
It is not pirate. To be more details, the company is a university which sells software to its students and employee. I am neither a student nor employee of the university. This is why I was thinking that I might commit a sin if I asked him to buy it for me.
 
It doesn’t sound right to me as it is bothering more. I won’t ask him to buy it.
 
You could buy the software from him, at his discount and over a course of a few months or so, what it would have cost you retail…give it to God.

Sorry this is bothering you so much. Not trying to talk you into anything that you don’t feel comfortable doing. Just giving you some extra food for thought.

Read the End User Lisence Agreement for the software. If it does not prohibit purchasers (your friend) from transfering their licenses, you may ask your friend to purchase the software with your money and transfer his license to you.

You will still be bound by the terms of the license. For example, if the license allowed your friend to purchase the software at a reduced price with the intended purpose that it only be used for educational purposes and that commercial use was prohibited, you would not be licensed to use it for commercial purposes after the license was transfered to you.
