Would it be wrong?

Let me start by saying that I was raised methodist. I converted about a year and a half ago to the Catholic church. I am having a tough time dealing with some of the catholic teachings but dont want to leave the Church. So I want to go to Mass on Saturday night and then go to my old Church on Sunday. Would this be acceptable? Im just so torn right now and felt if I left the Catholic Church that I would be damned to hell. Can anyone give me some advice?

Nobody here knows enough about you and your circumstances to help you. How about talking this over with the people who were closest to you during your period of instruction?
 
I second that advice. I also suggest that you make a list of the teachings that bother you and bring it with you–to your RCIA sponsor and your priest preferably. Did you keep any records from RCIA that may be able to help you remember how you came to believe in the Catholic Church and its teachings, so that you can refamiliarize yourself with it?

And maybe sit contemplatively with the Catechism, peacefully and prayerfully reviewing the points that have come to trouble you.

As far as I know there is nothing wrong about you going to the Methodist church on Sunday as long as you fulfill your obligation to go to mass, which you will do Saturday night. However, I really think it is a bad idea in your situation.
 
To me, going back and forth between the two (in your case being a new convert) would pose a danger to you. I agree with the previous posts that mention that you should make a list of the things that trouble you and mention them to your priest.

Once you turn your hand to the plow, don’t look back. You’ve been given a great grace by conversion to the true church. Some of your friends perhaps even your former pastor might see this as an occasion to increase your confusion in there attempt to lead you back to the Methodist community.

I remember in my own case when I was young, I was between the Catholic church and the baptist community. The baptist pastor took it upon himself to tell me directly that the Catholic church would lead me to hell.

I myself on occasion watch protestant tv but it’s important to be grounded in your Catholic faith when doing that.

Don’t worry. Hard teachings are sometimes only hard because of the underlying biases we’ve develped from herectical teachings.

To really come to the fullness of your new faith you must immerse yourself in it. Going back to your old church would only further confuse you. READ< READ<READ. go to Catholicity.com and get the free CD’s, there are so many great talks. Spend time on here and of course meet people and network with those at your Catholic Church. A new faith is sometimes weak and the devil is probably putting extra pressure on you so you dont ever come to the fullness of faith. You never know the battle going on above for your soul. Doubts are not bad things, they make us all look for the answers and in my case i come to love the Catholic Church more and more the more i ask and learn.

I sing with a choral union group now and we are going to sing a couple cantadas by Vaughn Williams and it is fun.

It is made up of many people from all over town and churches and some maybe don’t go to church?

But we don’t ask each other where we go to church, but I would not go to church with any as I like my own.

I struggled with am I wrong for awhile but, the purpose and intent and motive is what I think you have to consider.

There are a few from our parishes that are doing these things with other protestant churches and being affected wrongly such as book clubs etc. If you can hang strong to your faith that is the test.

First, pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to let you correctly discern the Truth on these matters. Also, you need to speak with your priest about this immediately. Confession is a good place to ask. Be specific and let him know precisely what you are having difficulty with.

Of course there is always the Ask an Apologist section of these Catholic Answers Forums (forums.catholic-questions.org/forumdisplay.php?f=4)

Coming form a Protestand background, as so many of us do here, you might find the Scripture Catholic sit helpful (scripturecatholic.com/).

In addition, there is a great site for the new Catholics who have difficulty. It’s the Coming Home Network, chnetwork.org/. On the webpage there are some phone numbers and people to contact.

As someone already mentioned, we don’t know your full circumstances so it’s hard to say, but I can give you my own experience for what it’s worth.

I fell away from the Catholic Church when I was 16 because of teachings I didn’t (want to) agree with (i.e. Sexuality etc.)

I returned to my faith in my early 20s and was Shopping around looking for the “true Church”. I tried different protestent churches, and although I appreciated their fellowship, love and prayer; some of the teachings/comments that I received made it VERY difficult for me to return to the Catholic Church, I was filled with so much doubt. But Jesus in the Eucharist and Our Lady (through the Rosary) prevailed, and brought me home through accepting the following three truths-
  1. Jesus is God
  2. Jesus instituted 1 Church and gave us the “rock”(Peter) to build it on.
  3. Because 1+2 are true, we can trust that what the Church teaches is true (even if we don’t understand fully).
I thank God for the Catechism, and my Catholic prayer group they really pulled me out of some serious doubt and confusion during this time.

It seems like that would just lead to more confusion. I agree that you should pray and read the Bible and the CCC and talk to your RCIA sponsor and priest.

If you want to return to the Methodist church for social reasons, maybe you should try becoming more involved in your Church? Bible Study, volunteer opportunities, etc.

I will keep you in my prayers.
