Would Like to be a Martyr?

But at the same time I’m a big chicken…May the Holy Spirit give me courage. Thy will be done.

You can not chose martyrdom, for to do so, could be suicide, which is a grave sin.

Martyrdom comes to you, not because you’re looking for it, but rather, being open to serving Christ, you are also open to whatever may come.

Dear Kevin… I can’t answer “yes” or “no” to this. I only pray, that Our Lord will grant me the grace and courage to do His will. Amen. Interesting “poll”, though.:heaven:

If its God’s will for me I would do it yes! But he would surely have to give me strength and courage because when it comes down to it, I can do nothing good without him.

I’m scared to be a martyr. I think we Christians are martyrs too, in a little way, considering all the bashing out there. We are enduring persecutions, you know.

In the early Church, confession were heard before the congregation, not privately. In fact, the Pope condemned private confessions, until the 5th century.

However, there were only three sins that actually had to be confessed before the congregation, and one of them was rejection of the faith, in the face of torture and death. During the first 3 hundreds years of Christianity, as Christians were persecuted, many rejected the faith, rather than face torture and death.

So, even if you should come to a situation where you must profess your faith or die, remember, you can always be reconciled.

Which reminds me. St. Joan of Arc, failed when she was first threatened with torture. After she had a dream where Christ spoke to her, and told her not to fear torture and death, she went on to become a martyr.
