Would like to do More

Does anyone feel like me, I feel like there is something out there that I can do more for Jesus, I feel like I’m just the average person, I know I need to do more, I want to serve Jesus and make this world a better place any directions or ideas, I feel like my life is empty not complete if I don’t do anything.

This is actually very good desire.

As St.Paul said:

If I preach the gospel, this is no reason for me to boast, for an obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not preach it!

[St.Paul in 1 Cor 9:16]

But would I ask you about your live (age,occupation - ect.)? And then we can think of specific things.

Well I’m 9-5 kind of guy working as an office clerk in Canada.
My interests are writing, films not really sure what I could do out
There. I thought about creating and running a film festival for charities
Around the world but not sure if that is a good idea…

If you want to do something that will really start a change in your life, find a church with perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. Put in at least one hour a week. Don’t stop. Keep it up. You will slowly start to see things in a different perspective. If you don’t know what to say, don’t say anything. Just look at and adore Jesus before you in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

There is a story about the Cure of Ars (the patron saint of priests) that when he was first at Ars, when he would go into church, there was always an old farmer sitting before the tabernacle. The farmer would never say anything. After a while St. John Vianne asked what he does before the tabernacle when he says nothing. The farmer replied, I just look at him and he looks at me. This by the way, is a perfect definition and explanation of what contemplation is.

I would say you should begin to study your faith and really know it. That way you will always be prepared to reach out to others when given the opportunity, you could become a fisher of men. You could look into third orders like the Dominicans, Fransicans, Carmelites, Ect. Find yourself a good spiritual director or confessor that can guide you. Adoration and daily mass if possible is also great. There are so many things to get involved in. If you feel your parish doesn’t have what you are looking for well think about starting something in your parish that could benefit others like for example a mens bible study… just an idea.

I have felt the call to do more, too. You’ve probably been feeling it for a while, but it does take time to sort things out, or at least it did for me. I’m happy for you that you’re feeling drawn to something much larger than what we typically experience in our daily lives.

In January, I went to work for a Christian non-profit which supports and educates orphans (mostly orphaned due to AIDS or Civil War) in Uganda, and for the first time in my life, I feel as though my “job” is so much more than that. I am planning a trip to the Watoto villages next year, possibly on a build team, because it’s not enough for me to work in the office here in the States. The work I do for Watoto is all for the glory of God - as the children, who stayed with my family this past weekend, taught me to say, “Yesu, kwagala nyo!” If you have the Lord on your mind, on your lips, and in your heart, everything you do will be for Him.

Oh, I totally agree. Time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is time very well spent!

Tell Him about your desire to do more, and He will point you in the right direction. Give Him time and be patient and open to whatever He might lead you to.
