Would someone be on the path to hell until they convert if I ask them this?

If I talked to a non-catholic and told him (s)he’s a heretic and obtained a latae sentantie excommunication, would that person be on the path to hell?
 
Unlikely. In any case, we would never know. It is only if some knows and understands Jesus and His church and still chooses to reject that that they are on the path. But we can never really know for sure.

No, your telling them does not qualify as sufficient knowledge and recognition of their error. The penalty of excommunication also only applies to Catholics, so a non-Catholic can never be excommunicated in the first place. The Natural Law may be binding on non-Catholics, but Canon Law is not.

This is an old thread, but I realized I made a mistake in my Original Post. I meant to say Catholic.

you have no knowledge of the state of another person’s soul unless you are already so holy that God has granted you such supernatural knowledge as he did a couple of great saints like Padre Pio and John Vianney. You would be guilty in claiming any such thing about a specific individual. Read Patrick Madrid’s Search and REscue and learn what to say and what not to say, so you can avoid your attempts at evangelizing doing more harm than good.

Actually, in some cases, you do. For example, John has a friend named Joe. Joe is the president of the US and Catholic, but publicly supports abortion. Joe is a heretic.
 
Heresy is found everywhere and there is no other place for heretics but hell, I do not mean to be judgmental or derogatory but I say that in a very objective sense. Our Holy Fathers and teachers of the Church have made this very clear over time, we may not know the state of souls in general, but a heretic is doomed unless they repent before they die.

By straying from the Church they have brought it upon themselves, and it is just for God to doom them.
