Would space aliens need redemption

Thought I would lighten the conversation a little.

Found this little article and it started me thinking.

Pardon me if this is the wrong forum to ask this question.

Now when I was a wee young 'un and listened to pastor Perry F. Rockwood and the People’s Gospel Hour I learned of course there was not such thing as space aliens.🙂

Is this meant as an insult?

I just thought I would start a lighter thread? Is that a bad thing to do?

It is three months after the fact and you are still making reference to my old screen name.

Did you see I said LOL I just can not see and one staring a thread like this this is for serious question not about space aliens Sorry if you do not agree May be you can ask your paster and he can asnwer your question.
 
There is nothing wrong with this thread, it is a valid and interesting topic for discussion!!!

Jesus came to save the human race. What about other races, or intelligent beings? Would they be considered to have souls, or would they be considered like the animals?

Would they be created in God’s image? Would God have a seperate plan for them that is unique from ours? What could we learn from that, if anything?

Yes, maybe its silly, but I think it’s opens a door for all kinds of interesting discussion. Who knows!

Hmmmm… strikes me kind of like the people that say “No offense, but your hair looks like a pack of wild dogs ate a bunch of straw, which passed through their digestive system, then got left on my lawn. No offense.”

Saying LOL does not make a statement less hurtful, just like saying no offense doesnt mean people wont take offense.

And I think this is a very interesting topic for debate. Not anything I know enough to wade in on, but interesting no less.

I really enjoyed those articles.

I do note that if I am a teenager or preteen say between 8-14, I am much more concerned about deep theological questions like “Did dinosaurs exist” and “Are aliens real” than the stuff debated here. Sometimes I think the kids have it right in this respect.

As for me, I guess I have no objection in principle to intelligent and moral life on other planets (sorry pastor Perry F. Rockwood). But then I get hung up on this. Intelligent and moral life must have free choice. What if the fall occurs on other planets in other galaxies? Does that mean God sends Jesus to die on the cross in all locations where there is a fall of intelligent life? If not what is so special about planet earth versus all of the other planets God created?

If they were descendants of Adam and Eve (if they were descended from ancient Mayans who had found their way to another planet, for example) then they would need Christ for salvation, but if not (and I am thinking that space aliens would most likely not be descended from Adam and Eve) then they would not - they would be like the animals, without sin, though not necessarily “good” in every way, since they (like the rest of the created universe) also suffers from the Fall, though not as directly as human beings do.

Not so fast. I say it would depend the aliens. Scripture and Tradition are our authoritative sources of revelation, but they are simply silent on space aliens. Hypothetically, it is possible that God created creatures elsewhere in His image and likeness and we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting them yet. Perhaps there are some out there who were created so and DIDN’T bite the apple. If so, and we meet 'em it could be messy for THEM. On the flip side, there could be such creatures that DID commit their own original sin in which case WE are likely in trouble if they get here first…
 
Space aliens would need redemption, assuming they are not free from sin. Space aliens who are free from sin would not need to be redeemed.

Also, you are assuming human characteristics in space aliens. What if they are more akin to hyper intelligent animals? Would they have immortal souls?

The Vatican observatory must be consulted!

No. When Adam and Eve bit the apple, it broke the entire created universe (including whatever planet the space aliens come from) - not just the Earth. The notion that each planet gets it’s own Adam and Eve comes from the Urantia Book; not from Christian thought. 😉

You write as if you base your opinion on something authoritative. Our revelation tells us NOTHING about God’s intentions outside of earth. We humans are tainted by original sin because we are Adam and Eve’s descendents. Why would aliens be?
On what do you base the idea that Original Sin broke the entire universe, not just man? I’ve never heard of Urantia…

“The world” in Genesis is the whole of Creation - all that is seen and unseen. It’s not only planet earth.
We humans are tainted by original sin because we are Adam and Eve’s descendents. Why would aliens be?

I’m not the one who said they would be. I said, “IF” they were, then they would also have inherited Original Sin, but not otherwise. (I consider “otherwise” to be more likely.)

The Vatican has already posted an answer to this, two years ago. The head of the Vatican Observatory said that if there were intelligent life forms on other planets, that it too would be a part of God’s Creation. And if it was also Sentient life, that it could choose God. After all, each Angel is said to more different from the next, that we are more closely related to dirt. We must remember also that even the plants and animals worship God. Psalms describes how the rest of Creation constantly praises and exults in God’s glory. St. Francis of Assisi preached to the birds, St. Anthony preached to the fish.

Just a few months ago, the Vatican held a big meeting, where they invited scientists and astronomers from all around the world to discuss many important topics in science, including the topic of extraterrestrial lifeforms.

Whatif, what if,what if, WHO CARES about whether a space alien is God fearing or Christian. What does that have to do with our salvation?
