…decides to convert to the Church of England (Episcopal/Anglican in the US I suppose, I’m in Britain), does he become a priest, or does he still have to continue to study for the C of E priesthood?

This question came up in conversation and I promised to find out, as I have no idea.

Hi,

As far as the Catholic Church is concerned, if he attempts to be ordained an Anglican priest, he will remain only a validly ordained deacon. Since the reign of King Edward VI the Catholic Church does not recognize Anglican ordinations as valid.

The Anglican Church would probably recognize the validity of the deacon’s ordination. As whether it would require further studies of him, you would have to inquire of the Anglican Church.
