Would the Catholic Church let me join...?

I think your comfort with Catholic worship is coming from the Holy Spirit.

I would encourage you to continue enjoying the graces you find in attending Mass so long as they continue. this will allow the Holy Spirit to continue His work in you.

I would discourage you from lying so that you might more fully participate in the ceremonies you find rewarding.

during the rituals wherein a person publicly becomes a member of the RCC, they are asked if they accept all that the Church teaches. you need to be able to honestly answer yes to that question before you enter the required rituals. if you answer dishonestly, you would be condemning yourself with your own words.

Hello ChristianPiper,

I am a former Mormon, now Catholic. If you still believe in the theology of the LDS church but do not like the LDS church, per se, I suggest checking out the Community of Christ (former RLDS) or getting in touch with Denver Snuffer.

I was baptized this past Easter, and right before I was baptized, I had to publicly proclaim that I reject Satan and believe the main points of the Nicene creed. If you don’t believe in the Trinity and the other parts of the Creed, how could you in good conscience say ‘yes’ and be baptized? The things you disagree with are not “finer points of doctrine”. You disagree with the Catholic Church’s teaching on the nature of God. That’s a huge disagreement.

When I started RCIA as an inquirer, I was contracepting and unsure about the Trinity, Mary and the Real Presence in the Eucharist. In my mind, these were among the biggest hurdles to overcome. Through study, I came to understand and believe in the Trinity, the Marian dogmas and the Real Presence in the Eucharist. As I was preparing to have my marriage convalidated in the Catholic Church, I knew I had to understand and agree with not contracepting. I learned about the teachings of the Catholic Church and researched the side affects of artificial birth control. It didn’t take me long to stop taking the pill. We now use Natural Family Planning and I am healthier for it. My conversion was a process. I knew that I was ready to become Catholic when I started to hunger for the Eucharist.

Since you accept Mormon theology, I presume that you believe in the apostasy? If so, why in the world would you want to become Catholic?

Nevertheless, I do not necessarily agree with some things like the Nicene Creed…
May I ask what it is in the Nicene Creed that you don’t necessarily agree with…
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.*

I suspect Mormon would take issue with “one holy catholic and apostolic Church” segment, but beyond that… what is there to disagree with for one who professes to be a Christian?

Are you a Human Being with a Human Soul willing to follow some rather basic, albeit challenging, guidelines to obtain freedom from your inherent awfulness that was caused by two naked jerks eating evil fruit eons ago?

If yes, then we accept you with open arms.

If I am not mistaken, it is ok to believe that all that the Church teaches, but not understand it all is acceptable. The understanding can come later.

I appreciate the answers. My problem is not one of study, I have studied Christianity extensively for almost two decades. I fully understand why the Catholic Church believes as it does, but I respect the beliefs, I simply do not share them. I am more inclined towards Mormonism in terms of theological belief. I do not believe in the Trinity, I believe in things like eternal marriage, etc… It is Mormon practice that I find unsatisfactory. I hate the meetings. The sermons (we call them talks) are inane, simplistic, and honestly poorly thought out disasters. I even agree with the need for having normal congregants give sermons, in theory, it is the application in practice that simply does not work.

I like Catholic services better, even if I disagree with theology.
You are of course welcome at Mass, but should not receive communion. To be baptized a Catholic you would need to discuss your desire with a priest. That is where you should begin your inquiry.
